In 1998, I was installing those nationwide alongside Ascend 9000 s, when combined equalled over $ 1,000,000 in hardware. We installed these in every major city in the USA. I have been in 40 states and we put over 200,000 miles on our vehicle.

They were awesome in their day...they had enough horsepower to span ports to feed into snort for IDS and other targeted traffic monitoring for data leaks (mortgage originating/servicing company).

Most of what I worked with in those days were Bay Networks hubs or switches and Cisco 4000 and 7500 routers. I worked with Token Ring more than Ethernet.

Yep. I hated CatOS. Saw these running in the core, in a corporate data center in 2008 my first day on the job.

This takes me back. CatOS was the first switch OS I ever learnt. I deployed so many 5500s. They were a great switch for their era.
