I was kind of hoping you would be building one.

How do you backup such a 1PB system and does the 3-2-1 rule still apply in these setups?

I have almost 50TB in my main NAS unit and it's a lot of stuff, I can't imagine a Petabyte. Excuse me while I go get a towel for the drool coming out of my mouth. LOL Thanks for the video!

I wonder if there was a way to run Windows on a VM on a NAS unit and then use BackBlaze unlimited storage for a Windows System for $5/month to back-up the drives in the Windows VM that is actually the NAS unit. Would be cheaper than a C2 Backblaze Solution... Maybe a fun project to try for your next video! Hahahahahahaha

I have a total of 68TB on my main NAS, duplicated on another two NAS's using rsync for an On-Site Backup and one as a Remote Off-Site backup full of media files. Also have a copy of all data on external hard drives backed up to Backblaze Personal! For my documents and photos I have 32TB allocated on a different NAS which again is duplicated on another NAS for on-site backup and remote off-site backup using Synology ShareSync!

Does The Internet Archive use object storage? If not what do they use?

Rule 1: Don't do it how LTT did it

In fact, that holds true for anything.

Love the channel and the videos, but I have one general comment:
When you are doing your commentary you sometimes lower the volume of your voice slightly and at the same time speed up what you are saying. This makes it hard for "old folks" like myself to understand what you said during this short portion of your narrative. It would be great is you could have a more consistent pace to the speaking speed. "cc" can help but doesn't always get it right.

Thanks, keep up the good work.

I like minio, but it doesn’t really take advantage of different tiers of storage in the same way ceph does as far as metadata is concerned and they say on their website it’s better to use flash storage.

I was expecting you actually building one, not this dry humping session 😢.

How do you back that up? Buy another petabyte NAS?

I’m running a small (30 TB) MinIO server on top of ZFS. Has anyone done tried this before? I know it’s not ideal, but I don’t want a separate set of disks just for my “small” MinIO jobs on my “large” 300TB ZFS pool. Any advice for hosting MinIO + ZFS on the same server is appreciated.

Nice to see some big builds.

But i would like to see some migrating from one disk to two to three and last four. I like to have access to all my files (images and video) and maybe some surveillance later. Because for now USD 1500 - 2000 is a lot for mee, to get the space i properly would need in a year or 2.

Hi. First time commenting! I run several backup tasks on the mac via smb, and found that i can direct lan connect the synology nas to the mac. Just did it yesterday. Transfer speed is just in another level. But now, i have two idenical servers popping up on the mac every time, and it automatically logs in to the wireless version of it, making me nervous every time i have to choose a location, two identical folders to choose from. Now i do not need to local access the server connected to the router, so what should i do to remove the nas from local access via router? However, i need the nas to be hooked up with the router because i run a website using web station.

This was very informative. I'm thinking about building vs buying a NAS to use for a home video server with 500 TB capacity.
