Like in Germany, we should have Autobahns with NO speed limits. The troopers are clowns, highway hazard, who should be abandoned and shut down.

Typical politicians. They pay lip service to law enforcement but that’s all they want to pay. Good law enforcement agencies require adequately paid and well resourced employees. That requires appropriate taxation. Suck it up raise taxes.

Well it doesn’t take Einstein to to figure out if they would put the half of the $10 million in overtime towards the officers salary the problem would be solved.

Have you ever thought about America changing over to a totally (capitalistic) contracted police system? (by law!) This has been an issue for the Florida Highway Patrol nearly decades now. Why is the third most populated state in the country paying its state officers less than some small rural county sheriff's office in the state? This is ridiculous! This is the reason why troopers leave their jobs for the sheriff's office and city police departments. Until this is seriously addressed the FHP will continue to have short falls

I rarely see troopers on I-95 and on the turnpike. Yet, I see lots of reckless drivers.

They wouldn’t have this issue if they wouldn’t be a bunch of pre Madonna’s in their hiring and also deuche bags in uniforms.

The dispatch centers are even in worse condition when it comes to staffing and pay compared to other agencies.

To be fair... FHP also has some of the strictest standards for becoming a trooper/ law enforcement officer, and their academy is very close to going to the military for that sub 55k a year. NOT MANY people want to put up with that. Raise the starting pay to 70k and I'm sure their will be to many applicants

So a few things…..
You can’t compare FHP salaries to that of other agencies unless you compare what type of policing they do…… FHP is a rarity in state law enforcement in that they ONLY handle the traffic side of law enforcement…… they don’t respond to calls for service like deputies and city cops and like other state police agencies from other states….. in the hierarchy of law enforcement in Florida (in regards to work load) they are on the bottom…… so it’s not astonishing that they only make 54k…… to me a city cop in Jacksonville dealing with street crimes everyday or a county deputy in a busy Florida County should be making more than troopers in Florida

Ive been in FL for 2 years and im surprised for the lack of FHP on the highways just came back from RI MA and the diference is enourmous we see state troopers on the highway

i plan to retire as a LEO to FL and join a local agency for medical benefits. I would join FHP but they also need to adapt policies like the tattoo policy w/o sleeves, its hot in FL folks, uniform updates, etc

There are plenty of State Troopers on Florida’s highways. We don’t need more cops writing tickets. We need more infrastructure. The current roads are overwhelmed with traffic. Build more roads and widen the old roads.

Maybe if county deputies would start investigating crashes on county roads, FHP would have more time to enforce traffic laws. They go from crash, to crash, to crash all day. County Deputies do not do traffic crash reports in Florida. This is a huge cause of workload for troopers.

That’s what happens when you wasted tax dollars. The brass is making all the money. And they’re wasting it on nonsense. We don’t need to be sending them to TX to the border.

Florida will not pay it's state Correctional Officer and opts to have the National Guard supplement staff.

OT for one fhp is $81,000 a year minimum

Let’s be real. With the way Florida drivers drive, it wouldn’t matter if you had 50 million troopers on the road, these roads would still be dangerous. The only difference is the state of Florida would bank in traffic fines. But the drivers would still be dangerous.

The officer of FHP won’t allow more recruits because their OT will be slashed, they’re working harder NOT smarter. Fight for $80k salaries and ditch the ridiculous OT. You’ll always get 6-8hrs OT weekly no matter what

Just in Miami-Dade and Broward there should be 3x the amount of troopers on 95, 826. Its become lawless on the highways. Massive lifted pickup trucks driving like theres no laws, sedans flying at double the speed limit. I see police themselves going 30 over the speed limit heading home from work. Its become so normalized, its time to enforce the laws, normal people that have to drive to work deserve safe roads. There wont be good public transit (metros, trains) ever in South Florida, so might as well put that money into this.
