“they also wore spikes and sometimes skulls on their helmets, so if you’re trying not to look like the bad guys, good job” -oversimplified

There was a version i think the m1915 that had a stud on top instead of a spike, you could remove the spike.

The concept of head injury reports increasing simply because the soldiers were alive and well to report them is interesting. Just because there's a lot of something doesn't necessarily mean that something is bad. It could be the opposite as it was in this case. Very interesting.

I hope German reuse pickelhaube for ceremony or parade. Their helmet today are not fit, because their helmet too modern for such tradition.

Curses, YT's necessity for reuploads... won't lie, bit ironic that the Nazis weren't that interested with such an intimidating helmet, and yet the North and South Americans did.

I thought when I was in school, the German helmet was spikes because it was a weapon like a bayonet. German soldiers could be trained in head butt attack techniques for close quarters.

The British used a helmet called the "Home Service Helmet", which replaced the Shako helmet, in 1878. It is similar to the Pickelhaube, except it is made of dark blue cloth and had a bronze spike. It kinda looks like a bobby's helmet

The Military Manual will tell you when to Exchange the Spike for the Plume for the Eagle, Soldier, and TAKE THAT CIGARETTE OUT OF YOUR MOUTH when you are making your Report !

Thx 4 clearing it up as I read from several sources the Ruskis had it 1st. Your dates reinforce your claims.

You could do a sequel regarding the goose step march, which was definitely adopted by the Prussians from the Russians. 1 Russian Imperial Guards drill sergeant could do it with his foot as horizontal as his raised leg! (info from Haythornthwaite's World uniforms and battles 1815-1850, Blandford press, isbn 0-071370-776-3.Small book but brimming with great info.

You didn’t touch on the origin of the name! I believe it is named so because of the construction method of boiling the leather in water to form it

so curious, why did the fire variant shown in the end usually have a comb instead of a spike? also pretty sure they were used around the 1800s too, atleast the one i got is believed to be from that era but can't find any information about it

My first memory of that helmet is watching Benny Hill as he played a soldier during WW1. He saluted and ended up impaling his hand on the pointy end lol
