Uber Driver App Overlay Permission WORKAROUND

As some others have stated, you can contact Uber Eats and request the overlay requirement to be removed. The first chat agent I spoke with wasn't much help and didn't know how to do this, but when I tried again the next agent was more knowledgeable and was able to have the requirement removed. It took a little bit of time for them to figure out how to do it, but eventually they did. I would recommend to everyone dealing with this overlay requirement to contact Uber Eats and request they remove it.

this is only android issue if u have iphone non of these will effect i have been using both iphone and android back and forth and trust me i know what im talking about

What else would you expect from Uber, run by Not Sees! Anyone have an automated task created using Tasker or similar app to solve this by just clicking on an icon instead of having to do this multi-step work-around?

Mandatory overlay is b*******. It interferes with my ability to use other apps. I'm a contractor and can do whatever I want, But they're requiring that they have priority over all other businesses on my phone without paying me.

Thank you i too believe it should be a option for each individual and it also causes you to accept others you normally would not do by accident. This no longer works i have disabled the overlay and now they have override that you cannot go online at all so now you must enable. That really sucks.

Lol, the solution you talked about for almost 10 minutes, I found myself earlier in one minute, and yes, this solution is temporary and needs to be repeated before each launch of Uber

The only problem with this method is that it screws up your map when going to pick up/drop off an order. The app still thinks you need overlay permission to go online - even when you're already online - and forces your map to become smaller because of where the "required actions" prompt is located.

I thought this would be a solution to get rid of it entirely,of course I've been allowing the overlay to get on and then I'm having to go to apps to disable it while logged on but that's a major pain,and dangerous,having to constantly turn it on and then off.I probably used to do 60% Lyft and 40% Uber but since they started this bs I'm probably down to 5-10% doing Uber.Everything about Uber is a major pain,the only time worth turning it on is when it's obscenely busy.

An easier way to get to Uber app settings is to hit the recent apps button (by the home and back buttons) and on the Uber thumbnail tap the icon and tap "app info."

Uber sucks so deeply Dara is a huge POS that literally destroyed any chance for drivers to make money the take rate is backwards Uber spends a fortune on research and other non essential employees and the drivers suffer I basically quit driving as Im not interested in making $10 an hour utilized, non-utilized,linear, or whatever Uber sugar coaters want to call it!

Thank you for showing this... I also have Android... so easy to follow. Will be trying it when I go out today. The ONE thing that is bad about that overlay is when you get an offer... you can not even open the Uber app to see the map of where this offer is going!! Their overlay restricts their OWN app!! I've had to decline good offers not knowing if its going to a bad or good area... or with / without heavy traffic at that time of day

This doesn't work on the pixel 8, I tried many times to turn it off but overlay permissions popped back up.

It's complete bullshit. I know it won't matter but I sent Uber a message through the app telling them exactly that and they are clowns for trying to control my phone and how I interact with he Uber app

How can you add the overlay? I had it before, but it disappeared and now I don't have the message saying that I have to have it, but I do like it

I've been using 2 separate phones from day one and I have a 3rd phone for something else.

I am glad that you are showing drivers how to do this. I did figure this out, but when you go offline, you have to allow overlay again and then turn it off again during that session in order to accomplish this.

What has happened to this company no matter what Areas the trash orders are everywhere.

Government should heavily regulate the Rideshare apps because clearly they are using the lack of governance to do everything they can to take money from the drivers and the Riders and to make life as difficult as possible for the drivers

I'm not sure I can agree with your theory. I routinely drive with both Uber and Lyft active. Although I have given Uber the permission you speak of, it does not interfere with receiving ride offers from Lyft.

Like another writer here, I do occasionally accidentally accept a ride offer from Lyft while driving a passenger for Uber.

And yes, I do have to cancel the other ride that I unintentionally accepted -- unless by some miracle my Uber ride terminates somewhere near where the Lyft rider wants to be picked up.

I just messaged them and told them they have no right to require how i use the app. That app overlay falls under my right to choose how i do business as an independent contractor. So they removed the requirement from my account.

I’m not driving for Uber no more and I’m very happy.

Wow! Everyday!! WEE PEOPLE KEEP these businesses in business! then THE BIG CEOs keep smashing us! I know it’s time for the BASE FARE TO INCREASE TO AT LEAST FIVE DOLLARS! I had one customer reduce her tip from five dollars to two dollars after delivery! we had a nice chat too! all fake I guess! why wild you want to stiff someone??!! I called terrible UE support and told them that’s being a dishonest customer and we drivers are being lied to!! They gave me my THREE DOLLARS BACK! smh! I like being able to deliver when I want with UE!! But ya def ain’t getting rich! It’s amazing that some customers want delivered goods for free! I’ve always tipped for services! UE needs a non refundable driver fee!! Because two dollars ain’t it!! How is that good business? Certainly not for a DRIVER! Maybe bike or scooter! But not for a AUTO! I’ll be on winter break soon! maybe I’ll return???🤑

The problem is that you have to reenable it each and every time you want to go online, then go in and turn it off... EVERY SINGLE TIME.

I freaking hate this crap. Independent contractor? WHO? ME? APPARENTLY NOT!! The popup does not show a map which makes it easier to take advantage of drivers.

This tip does not work anymore. Uber has advanced the app & you will be taken offline as soon as you remove this permission. It is very invasive and unnecessary - obviously a tactic by Uber to interfere with INDEPENDENT drivers who wish to use other apps as well.

Do you have to do this procedure every time you go online with the Uber app?

Does Uber only have 1 filter now? Area Preferences is the only one I have.

I'm glad you're covering this because I've accidentally accepted rides a few times and had to cancel because it popped up while I was using another app. It's annoying!

Turn on both apps. When one ride comes up turn the other one off. Duh!!! No need for 2 phones.

I did everything you said to do, but as soon as I went to log in to Uber again, it made me give it permission again.

If these apps cared about driver safety they would remove Trip Radar and Ride Finder which are going to get people killed if they haven't already. I stopped looking at both and I also go offline while on a ride. I'm tired of their constant distractions that force me to take my eyes off the road- it's UNSAFE and needs to regulated out of existence!
