I don't what you're talking about because there were a bunch of beauty gurus (as they used to be called) on YT back in 2010 doing almost exclusively tutorials. Pixiwoo, Makeup Geek, Wayne Goss, Xsparkage, Vintageortacky, Sarah Victor, and so many more that I forget their names because they stopped uploading. Hell, even Nikki Tutorials has been uploading since at least 2011.

I have blinked into my mascara for YEARS. I cannot do it the where you just brush it on

So many "tutorials" even now are not for beginners they'll jump to next steps quickly and don't always explain the technique and Why its important. Wish more influences would post everyday makeup..

When I was a teenager during 2000's, I used Dream Matte Mousse (too dark for my pale skin. Even the lighter shade was too orangey for me). I had a white shimmery powder from Arcancil that I loved. It was a big round pan. I applied it with a round sponge.
I was as white as a ghost and sparkly lol.
I used a lot of dark/shimmery eyeshadows from Bourjois (a smokey? Wdym...)
I used black pencil on my bottom and upper waterline too. I keep on doing it tho. Pencil on your upper waterline, I discovered it thanks to a friend in highschool and it's life-changing. It enhances the eyes so much.
I think that I remember putting eyeshadow on my waterline too ^^

And lip balm, gloss, or flavoured lip roll-on lol. The good ol'days

That eyeshadow brush was the covergirl one that came with the trio eyeshadow!! Lol I used the same one FOREVERRRR back in the day. And I seriously just cleaned out an old makeup bag and found that exact CG black sparkly eyeshadow 😂🙏

OMG I stilllll have that glittery cream eyeshadow quad and I used to do winged eyeliner with it and the glitter would fall into my eyes and I would just ~deal~ with it

Currently breastfeeding my son and trying not to wake him as I belly laugh to the waterline/shadow combo.

I used that SAME black eye shadow as eye liner when I was a teenager 😂

I used to NEVER wear any mascara or eyeshadow but I would just wear black eyeliner around my whole eye. Or neon turquoise eyeliner. No concealer, no foundation. Just eyeliner. I thought I was a badass
