The "SEGA ACTIVATOR" was an octagonal controller that came in pieces that you assembled and stood in the middle of. Beams would shoot up from the controller. Each section acted as a button on the controller. As you would move your hand or foot over that section, it would cut the infrared beam off and activate that command. Very few games supported it but it pre-dated motion controllers. Yes, there was in fact motion controllers in those days. That was among the first.

Mine from christmas of 1994 was model two core system, which comes with Sonic 2. Ahhh good times good times.

I have a genesis I got it today for Christmas

Where to begin...  I remember getting my Sega Genesis back in the day.  I was also lucky enough to come across a guy at the flea market who sold me another genesis plus a lot of 100 games for eighty dollars.  I am going to be honest I felt it was an epic win.  (Side note...  Only about ten of the games were Madden games.  The rest was actually pretty cool collection.  All of the Sonics, Golden Axe, and even the Seven-up game Cool Spot.)
