The 9th Generation Is Disappointing

I keep getting comments about me mispronouncing "library" as well as the switch predecessor instead of successor. I do apologize trust me my friends are letting me know about it as well as the comment section. It is MY FAULT I am sorry lmao

The answer to why this generation of consoles is crap is very simple: Games as a service.

I'm so glad I haven't bothered with the PlayStation or xbox. Back when the PS4 first came out 11 years ago I had a strong curiosity for it but never went for it. I kept noticing even back then and I know it's a lot more of the case now but even back then every game that came out for a Playstation or Xbox console would typically come out for both but on top of that they would just come out for PC anyways so I just stuck with that.

Unfortunately that computer ran into some serious overheating problems that I don't even use it anymore and the laptop I got since was more of a budget kind and doesn't actually play all the newest games that effectively, but even still there are so many games I can play on the PC that I don't need the other consoles. Not to mention my PC actually had no problem playing the newest Sonic games at the time.

This is why I just don't bother with PlayStation or xbox. But I'll still buy Nintendo consoles because at the very least they still have a whole lot of exclusives. Nintendo seems to be the only one that has exclusives anymore.

Like you I grew up with the Game Boy and the playstation. I was born in 1988 and actually I was pretty lucky that my family had the Sega Genesis with that Sega channel that got you all those games on it, as well as the Super Nintendo and later on the PS1 and the n64. Me and both my older brothers had our own game boys. It was a really happy time back then.

Ironically somehow we never had a PS2 even though that's the highest selling console ever made but we did have a GameCube and the original xbox. I have a PS2 slim now but it's just in my storage unit.

It may seem like as if I'm some kind of Nintendo Fanboy because I only get Nintendo platforms now but I just don't see any purpose of getting Playstation or Xbox when I already have a perfectly good PC that can play those games.


I mean it's like you said the PS5 only has 13 exclusives. I'm thinking the switch might have had that many exclusives and its first year to be honest. Maybe its second year.

Just get a PC or Steam Deck. Consoles aren't worth it anymore, and paying for multiplayer is fucking bullshit

I'm enjoying gaming more than ever since leaving consoles behind, don't have to worry about generations, and don't have to buy new games that often because almost every game ever is on PC so I never run out of things to play, also Game Pass being on there and PlayStation releasing their games on Steam, plus Switch emulation, you get absolutely everything

And you don't need to constantly tinker or upgrade like people think, and if your PC specs are anywhere near the current console generation, you don't have to upgrade it for years as a PC with similar specs to the current consoles will run everything, unless you absolutely need 4K and 144 fps for everything, but if you don't, you'll be sorted

My PC is on par with a PS5(I have a worse CPU though) and I won't be upgrading anything in it until PS6 probably, I don't need to, I haven't put a new part in it in over 4 years

The Xbox one launch as, legendary.

I find fewer+fewer games I want to play.
First "console" was pong, spent hours on that. Master system. Mega drive. Ps1. Xbox 360. Xbox 1 + 1x.

Ive been disappointed until recently, between the vr2 price drop recently and more games being made for it, rumor of a new handheld, single player games making a come back.

Been using geforce now for about 5 years, wouldn't swap for anything its absolutely perfect, just link your accounts Steam, Epic etc and you can play in 4k 120hz. Superb.

Sony = Best hardware with few games. Nintendo = Great games with weak hardware. You can't have it both ways....

And remember folks... thats 700 dollars perioud. On PC you can just upgrade the GPU or at worst cpu, motherboard and ram... imagine asking sony if you could trade in your old scruffy ps5 and pay 300 or so for pro upgrade? Yeah. Nope.

Heck even 450 would be "okayish" asking price for boost in graphics, fps and developer capabilties. But naah, fork over 700+stand+maybe discdrive too!

My ps5 is where I can play my ps4 games at 60 fps and no jet engine. It differs from pc as here I can buy ps4 games for cheap at cex which are usually cheaper by £30 than at digital storefronts.

See this launch lineup bs is still a fanboy nonsense. I can no longer care about launch titles or whatever the soup washes into your brain. i chose my console and have hundreds of games on that no matter what. Good thing I came out of a blank state. I ignored the gaming industry for many years as I had other things to do. But eventually those tasks were over and I could return to normal.
I only had to chose between PS5 that was not available due to failed sales strategies by Sony. The whimsical Switch. And the Xbox Series. The choice was easy. And I never regret it. I went out of fanboy bs and came back with a clean mind. I just wanted something to play games on with ease. The Xbox then won this battle without a fight. Even though I will not have all the games from every gaming generation, I would never have the time to get it all down anyway. But I garnered way enough games for an entire lifetime. And my TV set never complains either. So what's the deal here? Really.

Ain't it embarrassing to hit us with your rose tinted childhood memory and then complain that you can not repeat your sweet childhood experiences anymore? Not the current gaming generation is disappointing. People like you are. I never lost the inner child that approaches video games with the same level of curiosity and engagement as I did decades ago. Dead Space is fascinating to me. EA relasead three mainline games and a remake and it has become a pillar in horror game genre. And yet, not once EA was satisfied with the sale numbers. According to them the every single release sale numbers were below expectation.

Realistically? I think yes; it is true that you don't win the console wars just by having great games at all... in fact, i dont think people are even that good at evaluating whether a console has great games or not. People might say the Wii U or the N64 had great games. Now, i will grant that most people dont end up owning that many games in a console generation, but you dont have "something for everyone" here. Then there's the matter of exclusives... well realistically exclusives dont make a console better, they just make the competitor's console comparitively worse.

There are things microsoft could do better of course. Unfortunately microsoft's company culture is completely hostile to good ideas, but if it wasn't... I would say they simply need to focus on being a superb platform... in fact they would do well to do whatever they can to make the xbox a great machine to develop and play on for everyone. I would make sure that any port of a PC game has crossplay and patch-parity, I would have the company work double time to support high quality third party peripherals, and i would extend support to developers who would not normally have considered a console port. Basically I would have the company do what was within its power to offer the benefits of PC gaming to both players and devs in a more user-friendly package. oh, and i would make sure the included gamepad wasn't a piece of pos.

If you can't get exclusives, then you have to be so easy and pleasant to work with that people jump out to publish and play on your machine.

Xbox is now garbage. So is playstation. Nintendo hasn't been so fire since the snes

I still play my 500GB PS3 slim & 1TB PS4 slim and believe it or not I am happy with both. I agree this gen (9th) is incredibly disappointing. I still don't feel compelled to drop 500 to 700$ on one and I am unsure if I'll ever buy one. I may just skip it entirely, the new next gen may only be 2 or 3 years out now

XB seems almost clueless and may eventually quit or die out (making gaming hardware) which isnt good for competitions sake. I still wish Sega would return
