I really was desperate because Cyberpunk 2077 was going to release in two days. I needed to buy a new GPU because I had been using a GTX 1050 which was pretty old. I found a bag that had $5000 and I gave the guy and lady $100 each. They looked to be honest people. Let's just say I got scammed.

The good thing is I was able to get a loan by putting up my car as collateral to buy a RTX 3090!

I’m never handing someone my money unless it’s in exchange for goods or services.

I'm sure all that stuff about feel good hormones is true. However if it's too good to be true, it usually is. And if it doesn't make sense it's usually a lie.

Welp, this just proves that stupid people just keep breeding as this "classic" scam (that you have to be dumb as a rock to fall for in the first place) is still in existence.

I would 100% make sure there was money in the envelope, and even make sure they look real. Not that that's any guarantee.
But even more, I don't think I'd "give collateral". Just go together or something.

The pigeon had to be an actor or have known about the scam ahead of time, since otherwise it would have been illegal. Taking someone's money by using fraud, even if you are just filming a documentary and/or "intended to give it back" or even did give it back, is still illegal.

If they did a quick change scam with his $85 would have been great

Our Dad warned us of the Pigeon Drop when we were kids. When I became a teen they almost got me. Dad's teaching was invaluable.
