Widescreen vs. Ultra-Widescreen - 16:9 vs. 21:9 // Test in 6 Games

21:9 should be supported by every game, the reason that some games don't support ultrawide because the developer block it. Dragon quest 11 ver 1.0 can use any 21:9 resolutions by editting the hex value. The dev didn't like it and updated the game version and ultrawide doesn't work anymore. The happens to some other games that the dev don't like 21:9.

I have a Dell S3220DGF 32" 165hz 16:9 monitor. I was thinking of going to the new Dell ultrawide S3422DWG 21:9 144hz (I like Dell monitors). I like the vertical height of this 32". With the 34" 21:9, what would the screen vertical height be equal to in 16:9 terms, 27"?

You should revisit with fps showing. Just got my first 21:9 today. Wanted one the first time I saw one on display at microcenter years ago, and it was just one of the first 25/27" (something like that) tiny ones by LG. Had never heard of the format, was there for like an HDMI cable and it stopped me dead in my tracks. Got a 35" 1440p today. It should last me until the rtx 6000 series is released 😁

i think 38" 21:9 is the sweet spot because it has about same height of 32" when in 16:9 mode.

Everyone praises the 21: 9 format, but could everyone compare the 35 3440x1400 monitors with the 32 2560x1400 ..? Still, 32 is more than 27, and when there is a comparison of 21: 9 and 16: 9, they usually compare 34 and 27 inches and here 34 inches (21: 9) will definitely win, but can he just as easily beat the monitor 32 inches ...?

You have to choose between losing some upper part of the view (21:9) or some side part (16:9) i don't like wide screens it looks like compressed to down The more square the screen, the more balanced the view

Got my first ultrawide a while ago and was mindblown by the additional immersion in games, after you get used to it it's very hard to go back to 16:9. Bought it for productivity but it ended up being a big gaming upgrade lol

Once you go ultrawide you can’t go back 😄. Curved ultrawide is even more amazing.

Believe in me you should buy a 55 inches TV for gaming because you can customize pc 21:9, 25:9 or 32:9.

My faveourite thing is it moves all the u.i put further less clutter more clean which i noticed you didnt do 😊

I need to test it by myself but in the DOOM test I felt I could focus better with the 16:9 than the 21:9. But the other tests are just like coming from looking through a window to being in another world...

vous pouvez mettre du 21.9 native sur un écran 16.9 directement sur le panel de la carte graphique pour les gamers qui on un GPU NVIDIA faut mettre votre resolution native pis aller sur l'option régler la taille et position du bureau mise a l'échelle cocher le rapport largeur ensuite aller sur onglet taille activer le redimensionnement du bureau et aller sur redimensionner et mettais la hauteur au minimum pis pouf la magie opère vous avez un 21.9 sur écran 16.9

Ιs the field of view set to 100% in both resolutions? It is important to state the field of view setting in both monitors....

To put it into perspective once you go ultra wide you don’t go back. 16:9 will literally feel like playing at 4:3 when compared to 21:9. Be warned though it’s about 15-20% fps loss compared to 16:9 resolutions.

Also word of advice I wouldn’t recommend switching unless you have a good gpu, with ultra wide you really want to pump the graphics up to high or ultra because immersion is a big selling point and also things like texture pop in and draw distances can be a bit funky in games that don’t have native support for ultra wide and higher settings tend to be more generous with things staying loaded with higher FOV ranges
