Richmond Police Department's 2015 Shop With A Cop

SHOP WITH A COP 2015

Every year, police officers and professional staff from the Richmond Police Department and the Richmond Police Activities League (RPAL) team up with children from our community to shop for Christmas presents.

What's special about this? The children earned their way onto the "nice" list by getting good grades in school. Most of the children come from families that have struggles in life. The RPAL Board selects the kids, and this year, there were 30 of them! This is just another way our officers are able to connect and mentor our future leaders.

The morning started out with officers serving the children a hearty breakfast and then it was off to the mall we went.

Each child received $100 to buy gifts. Most of the kids used that money to buy gifts for their family members, instead of themselves! How selfless is that?! Well, most of our officers also spent their own money on the kids, just to make Christmas that much more special and amazing.

The officers and kids shopped, played, and wrapped presents. There was huge surprise at the end. Each child got to pick a free bicycle at the end of the day!!

This annual event is only possible because of open hearts of giving people and companies, RPAL and the police officers. Thank you so very much and Merry Christmas!
