I know a lot of people confuse microwave radiation with radioactive decay, but they're very different. Microwaves are the shorter end of radio waves and with enough power can transfer heat just like you get from a campfire but with a longer wavelength than infrared radiation. It can't give cancer or cause burns without knowledge while radioactive decay can. If it was doing damage, you'd feel it immediately just like when you get too close to a fire and pull away. Main difference is, because of the longer wavelength, it can heat things deeper which can do more damage. I've also calculated the power density and temperature change these microwaves cause at different distances and are within safe levels for the 30 second intervals shown in this video. So while I don't recommend anyone try what's shown in the video, it's certainly nothing like radioactive decay.

In this case, the microwaves are spread out over a long enough distance (Inverse square law, since microwaves are light) to not cause any harm as it's over a large area. Removal of the metal shell body of the microwave also removes it's ability to create powerful standing waves that would occur in a microwave box. So it's actually much weaker without it's shell.
