Cognac AND rye? The perfect middle-ground for a New Orleans classic.
ОтветитьI second the bitters questions - why no Peychaud's?
ОтветитьI was lucky to try the Vieux Carre in Hotel Monteleon right after Tales. Really good but very boozy. It made me slow down that afternoon.
ОтветитьI know it’s typically served in an old fashioned glass with ice, but to me this drink is a lot closer to a Manhattan than an Old Fashioned. It is 2:1 spirit(s) to vermouth with a couple dashes of additional flavours. That’s pretty far from the Old Fashioned build of spirit, water, touch of sugar, and bitters. I also concur with everyone here regarding Peychaud’s bitters.
ОтветитьIf there’s no Peychaud’s bitters, it’s not a Vieux Carre
ОтветитьWhy do you push your icecube up everytime when you stop stirring? Does it have a reason or just a tic?
ОтветитьWonderful! Followed you for quite a while and love your channel!
ОтветитьI typically do this drink up in a coupe, no ice in the glass, but diluted using a mixing glass... then equal parts 2 dashes of both peychauds and angostura.
ОтветитьNo Peychaud's?
ОтветитьHow much does the dom benidicine influence the flavor? I don’t want to buy a $30+ bottle if I’m only using a dash of it and don’t really see it in most other drinks
ОтветитьWhere do you buy your glassware from, namely the cocktail glasses themselves?
ОтветитьPeychaud’s???????
ОтветитьWent there last week! Had to make my pilgrimage
ОтветитьI like that you started making the tasting and the making of the drink the same video! Much better that way! And I agree with you about the presentation. That's arguably half of the drink.
ОтветитьMy favorite drink, next to the side car
ОтветитьI agree. All the recipes I've found call for Peychaud's
ОтветитьThat is probably not the right pronunciation of vieux - at least it's not the French pronunciation. On another note, do you have an episode planned on one of the strongest tiki drinks out there: the zombie? And if so, are you planning on making a few versions of it, because so many variations exist? I would love to see your take on the zombie!
ОтветитьIsn't this closer to a Manhattan than an Old Fashioned?
ОтветитьOut of curiosity, why was this made in the glass vs in a mixing glass and strained on to ice?
ОтветитьWell done. Great drink choice. Going to buy some Benedictine tomorrow. Thanks
ОтветитьCan I swap out the Rye Whisky for a Bourbon? Rye Whisky is hella expensive in Europe.
ОтветитьOne of my favorite drinks and so much fun to make. Not too worried about excluding Peychauds, it has plenty of ingredients already and due to that definitely allows for some preference in flavor profiles. I love the marriage of cognac and rye whiskey and this drink really inspired me to learn more about cognac and try more cocktails with 1:1 rye:cognac ratios, sazerac especially. Incredibly interesting drink and I love everything about it from making it to sipping it. Thanks again, your videos are wonderful.
ОтветитьIs there another cognac you recommend for most of your cocktails other than pierre ferrand (that's easy to find, like at bevmo)? I can't find pierre ferrand. Thanks in advance!
ОтветитьHaha, loved reading the comments.. it’s not just me that’s cops grief when I stray from the ‘original’ recipe... I always seem to vary a drink slightly in my vids and people are quick to call me out too 😆 I think people seem to forget that you can’t easily edit an uploaded video from years ago! Nice one again!
ОтветитьIts not pronounced "voo carrey" but "vee-eu-carrey"
(Look up on google translate how "eu" sound in french)
My Favorite 3's . Vieux Carre, Old Fashion, and the Sazerac
ОтветитьI just bought Benedectine and I'll try this. Guess it's a goodnight cocktail given the amount of booze in it :D
Oh, btw - the drink name is pronounced as "vie-ew-car" (the r at the back of the throat)
Great video, love the explanations for everything. Thanks. Just one little quibble, if I may. In French it would be pronounced “Vyou Carrey.” Is “Voo” Cajun?
ОтветитьPronounced Vee - uh carr - eh but otherwise great video.
ОтветитьPeychauds? Didnt see thta incouded in video
ОтветитьSay it with me now Vee + urr + Kah + Ray. I don't know where this voo came from but that's a butcherin' too far.
Ответитьforgot the Peychauds
ОтветитьVyuh Cah-ray, Leandro! LOL ;) Cheers!
ОтветитьJust tried this out, it’s amazing!
ОтветитьPronounced « Vee-her caw-ray » for my anglo bros ...
ОтветитьNicely done!
ОтветитьWhere are you from?
ОтветитьOrange is WRONG!
ОтветитьIt’s more like a Manhattan than an old fashion . The old fashion doesn’t have sweet vermouth. Thanks for the video.
ОтветитьCognac can be a minefield if you don't know the spirit. I fit into that category. What would you recommend for this cocktail that wouldn't get lost but would also stand as a good sipping cognac.
ОтветитьWhere'd you get that glass? I love it
ОтветитьThanks for the vid sir.👍🏼👍🏼
ОтветитьI discovered it on the Mardi Gras Cruiseship and it became my drink of choice.
ОтветитьNene no tienes ni idea
ОтветитьBest cocktail I had all of last year and one of my best ever was Ago Perrone’s riff on the Vieux Carre, the Vieux Connaught, at the Connaught Bar in London.
ОтветитьWho like me likes the old barfly videos every once in awhile
ОтветитьI’m going to use this one!!!
ОтветитьI will say that's a very specific style of sweet vermouth (strong on the chocolate notes.)
ОтветитьAll recipes that I've seen call for 2 types of bitters.
ОтветитьLove your content and the history bits. Why no Peychauds bitters? It's a NOLA cocktail FFS lol
