In my first year teaching I called home to report a failing grade. I was waiting for a response, then I realized that she was crying really quietly. "Uh ma'am, are you okay?" "Oh, sí." <Click>

I tell my students all of the time they are better than CNN. They have different camera angles, lights, and they are faster than the news.

As a parent with 2 grown son's my issues were with the administrators not the teachers. My oldest graduated in 2007 and my youngest graduated in 2009. From 2006 to 2009 was Hell. Plus I was a single mom. This public school had a Spanish teacher who slept with students (not my son). She's in jail.
