Lore reason for not using the sword: Raiden's blade is charged from cyborg electrolytes and there are no cyborgs, making his blade kind of useless.

Never noticed it before, but I like how Snake smiles at Raiden when he offers him his sword. It's as if he knows the HF Blade is overpowered. It almost makes me feel bad when Raiden declines.

From Big Boss perspective. Raiden is basically the Terminator.

A war machine from the future back in time to stop a major threat. Assuming he still keeps up to date with movies at this point like Para Medic.

Edit: I just realized Ground Zeroes is in 1975 the first Terminator movie wouldn't be out until 1984 which is roughly during the Phantom Pain incident.

I’m 99% sure that they knew if they gave him his sword they would’ve been obligated to add blade mode in some way. Also they didn’t want to have to bother adding dynamic objects into the game lol.
