Can u please help me?I have been dying my hair dark brown shade 4 and 5 box colour.I want to go lighter like a chocolate brown or even Ash colour but i have alotbof greys.The colour comes out in the roots fine and light but then leaves a dark block half way down .How can i make my hair go lighter and cover the greys with a lighter colour.Thankyou x

Great tips!! Color looks great on her. Can also use Roux stain remover around the forehead, works on stains from eyebrow color too.

wow, thank you for saying that bit about not shaming box dying. some hair stylists can sound so smug and judgmental about it. not everyone can afford a salon visit thank you so much for teaching ppl the proper way. i love ppl who are generous with what they know and genuinely want to help ppl out.

I paid $200 for pink hair and I got red that faded into a gross orange. I’m gonna try and re-dye with box dye and hope for the best. Cause it can’t be worse lol

I have virgin medium brown hair. Do I need to bleach my hair to go from medium brown to ash blonde?

Yep. Your understanding of why some of us dye our own hair with boxed product is exactly why I'm following you. Hair shaming is just as unacceptable as any other kind of shaming; it especially irritates me that people who are ostensibly there to make others feel better about themselves through styling will take an opportunity to be contemptuous of clients trying to look better!
I'm not going every month to professionally have my red hair re-done by a professional. I have ALL respect for what a great stylist does, but simply can not invest more than $1,000 a year in the service.
So! Thank you for this video ... as I sit here with my hair gooey with hair color! Laugh

The hair dresser I went to used box dye, and my black hair color did not change. Since that time I did not go to a salon ever. If your color is black or dark brown and you are just touching up greys with the same level, I think box dye is safe.

I have two young children and a husband who works 14 hours a day, 6 days a week with a set day off on Sunday. Most hairdressers aren’t open Sunday’s but I also don’t want to sit at a salon for 3 plus hours to get my hair done, and be disappointed by my results.. which happens most of the time.

i have watched many of these DIY people and a few do okay...but not enough to justify their purpose. my hubby and i have been electrical contractors for 45 yrs. we go behind 'handymen' all the time...sometimes it's too late the damage has been done and the house is burned down. i know it's not that drastic for hair salons and many DIY inexperienced loners to take on drastic colors by themselves at home. every single time i have gone to a salon for color, it's not just ONE person who collaborates what colors they need to mix. it is a team who supports each others plan and a lot goes into it. many people are squeezed financially but their cell phone is the latest model. it's all about priorities. i think it's nice that you help people out with some advice but don't risk your license and give free advice to whom want to do it themselves. you don't owe them anything. my hubby and i don't give free advice to amateurs about electrical work on the phone...that's why we spend big bucks on insurance, state licenses both masters & contractors licenses because it's our responsibility! you put so much time & energy into your profession. you are a pro..DIY handy people are a dime a dozen.

The only problem is that if I have to buy 4 boxes I might as well get it professionally done.🤷

How exactly do you follow the 20 minute time? Do you start the timer at the beginning, when you first start brushing the color on? Or you start the timing after the hair is fully covered? It takes me almost 20 minutes to get the product on my hair!

I used box color, my hair is fine. Last week I went to hair salon name Hi Maintenance for my hair done. I told her I want my hair color is light brown to cover my white hair. After 90 minutes my hair came out blonde and my hair very dry. She charged me for $318 . Waste of my money for damages my hair. Will never go to hair salon anymore.😢😢😢😢😢😢

Thank you for not condemning us box dyers for doing so. We all have our reasons for using them. I love going to get my hair done by a professional, but I cannot always afford or have time to do so. I highly look up to you for making this video and helping us to understand things in a more professional outlook. I know that there is many that have loved this video, and they are right to do so. I bleached my hair but it got white and I didn’t like it, I bought a box dye and the color is nice but it’s not the same as the box, is it because I left It on too long or what?

I’m using box dye at home because I’m a straight dude and I can’t walk into a salon and ask for my hair to be dyed because everybody looks at me weird

I love my stylist. I’ve been seeing him for over 20 years, but I’m only working part time now and it’s getting hard for me to go every six weeks and pay $110 just to have my roots colored and my hair blown out, I think I’m gonna have to start at least just doing my roots at home myself, and going to him for all over color

Hi! I'm almost nearly grey at 37. I would like to go darker, I've been getting highlights for the past 5 to 6 years, to just blend. But I'm kind of wanting to go back to my natural color, which is a dark brunette. I know the upkeep can be a little more but I'm really wanting to do something different. I don't even know what to ask for. The last girl that did my highlights earlier this year ended up giving me hot roots, and I'm afraid to go back to her. She was feeling poorly, and she was very sorry about it, but I do not want to go back through that again. Do you have any advice? I do think I will seek out another salon professional, but I'm not even sure what to ask for. Would I say brunette highlights? Would I say brunette low lights?

If new to the process, how do you know where your natural hair colour falls on the chart to properly choose a box colour. Ex. Light brown, but how do you know if it’s ashy/neutral/warm etc?

Thank you, but you left out a couple of huge things. How to get the dye off your skin and do you have to shampoo your hair after dyeing it?

I have Emily’s hair color naturally, but it is fading as I get closer to 50. I found Revlon Colorsilk number 53 Light Auburn, but they have discontinued the shade. About to try number 45 bright auburn and really scared!

I LOVE the industry jargon "you are SO screwed"!!! I'm cracking up!!! I'm going to try to dye my hair for the first time. Lucky, it's really short on the side and If i miss areas or don't get full coverage, It will just look like i have some miscellaneous grays. But great tip on not leaving the dye in there too long and overcooking the hair!!!

What if the roots are darker than the rest of the hair? Will they be 2 different colors if I box dye them or is there a way for me to make the colors equal?

I think as long as you take care of your box dye color hair then it should be okay.

Gabi, I’m so glad I found your channel. I have a question: Do you recommend coloring with oily hair, or clean hair? I have a naturally oily scalp & it’s been a long time since I’ve boxed dyed my hair. I used to dye on greasy hair lol. I’d wait a couple of days, but I’ve read that the color takes better to clean hair. I’m blonde & I stay in the blonde zone. I’m subtle lol.
