The best part of this technique vs. using a pro mist filter is that it's not baked into the image. I love using pro mist when I'm in studio but shooting on location with varying lights, shots, contrast situations, etc makes it a pain in the rear to constantly add/remove the filter. This technique while not as "technically accurate" is still enough to get you most of the way there with far more control.
