I agree with the Flame Swordsman. And in the episode where the friends are trapped in their favourite cards, Joey's is the Flame Swordsman, giving more evidence to that being an ace.

I honestly was turned off for 5Ds when Yusei first summoned Junk Warrior.

I was like "that looks ugly." But I stuck around and learned the story behind the card.

Even though later on Stardust made its appearance, I almost missed out had I been so judgmental...

I consider Junk Warrior and Stardust to be both equally Yusei's aces

Junk warrior's effect name "Power of fellows" makes him gain atk equal to low level monsters on the field which represents Yusei getting stronger as the show goes on through bonds

Stardust's effect name "Victim sanctuary" banishes it self to prevent a destruction effect which represents Yusei's willingness to protect his friends and the world even if he had to sacrifice himself like what he did after defeating Zone

Yuma Tsukamo of Zexal had at least 3 different decks with at least as many aces. He's got his standard Utopia/Number deck, Music Djinn deck from the early part of the duel carnival arc and his onomatopoeia deck from his final duel with Astral. He's had some decks with multiple aces too, his Music Djinn deck alternated between around 3 Djinn XYZ each one considerable as an Ace monster depending on the duel, Utopia has at least 3 different forms that became Aces in their own right and Gagaga Cowboy got some time in the spotlight as a sort of ace-ish monster too.

Buster Blader always reminded me of Blaster Blade from Cardfight Vanguard.

Joey- Metalmorph especially with the new metal morph cards all using his cards for its best cards.
Yugi- I agree with BLS and could have tied Buster Blader into the BLS archtype. Also it would have been good to show that Kibia and Yugi were at the same level and both only need one misplay by the either to win

If we were to look at support the character's decks got OUTSIDE of the anime, Performapal Laugh Maker feels made to be a new ace for Yuya - Pendulum Monster, member of his main archetype, 2500 ATK and 2000 DEF, and his effects to heal and get boosted based on opponent monsters having higher ATK feel hand crafted around Yuya's love for Smile World.

Even if flame wingman and junk warrior aren't the secondary access, they are, in my book, akin to the summoned skull or kuriboh (ignoring winged kuribih) for their series where, sure, they aren't THE aces but they are the secondary/tertiary mascots of their decks. The Charizard of their show/deck, if you will.

Black Luster Soldier also fusing with Kaiba's Blue Eyes Ultimate would really add on to him being Yugi's hypothetical ace.

I mean for a while Flame Wingman/Junk Warrior WERE Jaden/Yusei's respective aces

Flame Swordsman is Joey’s favorite card; certainly iconic for his deck

If I was gonna change Joey's ace it would be to gearfried the iron knight, from battle city onwards he uses it constantly and he has an upgraded form in gearfried the sword master, another option for joey would be gilford the lightning which although it was definitely his strongest monster it just never seemed to have the same connection to joey as gearfried did

I disagree with having Magician of Black Chaos or Black Luster Soldier as almost Ace Monsters.

They are more like Ultimate Monsters, mean to be summon in very rare and special occasions to finish a hard dual, while Ace Monsters are more recurrent monsters that aren't necessary very deadly but are more important for said character, so a monster like Gaia or Summoned Skull are better picks as cards that almost became Yugi's Ace card.

BLS Envoy Of The Beginning is one of my favorite cards in the game, and one of the first aces of my junk deck I made back in 2012.

i do like Stardust Dragon and it is an iconic synchro monster in 5Ds, but my heart goes out to Junk Warrior. It was my first Yugioh card and still have it to this day, remains my fav synchro card

Junk warrior is in a tough spot for me. Yusei utilized it often in the show and though JW has closed out games for him, JW is honestly a stepping stone for the deck. JW is lvl 5, nitro synchron is lvl 2 which makes lvl 7 nitro warrior. JW + lvl 1 turbo synchron makes lvl 6 turbo warrior. JW+lvl 3 junk synchron to make lvl 8 junk destroyer/stardust.

Interesting, no dragons in this top 10. Crazy work.

If rituals worked from the beginning like fusions from the extra deck bls and black chaos would have been the nest aces.

Yugi: Dark Paladin

Was a fusion that powered up against dragons (so good against blue-eyes/kaiba). In fact, yugi used it to beat Kaiba.

I find the Black Ray Lancer exclusion interesting because visually speaking (not card wise unfortunately) it looks like the baby version of 101 and to me it always struck me as the Flame Swordsman of Zexal.

As for some other candidates, I personally really like Vanilla Chimera for Atem, Summoned Skull for little Yugi. Blade Edge for Jaden always struck me as his back up in case none of the Fusions could cut it or he needed quick power, and Nitro Warrior I always thought was like Yusei's strongest monster before he got Stardust back and even after he used it for so many OTKs.

Yuri used Synchro at the end and he was Yuya's evil twin.

When it comes to Jaden, discussion for his ace is one of the more trickier ones since bro has a lot to choose from, with each of them having good reasons.

Flame Wingman: his favourite monster

Neos: a card he designed when he was a kid

Yubel: his closest ally and someone he loves

Winged Kuriboh: the card the Great Yugi gave him at episode one

Polymerisation: his favourite spell

Super Polymerisation: a card he has used to make Neos Wiseman and is technically a Supreme King Ace card as well, and Jaden is the Supreme King

Other card you could justified is miracle fusion , shining flare wingman (2500 atk but can be seen as a boss monster)

I feel like there is "BLURRED" line between "SIGNATURE" & "ACE" and to a lesser extent, "FAVORITE" MONSTER CARD... OR CARD IN GENERAL!
An example being: Yusei with Junk Warrior and Stardust Dragon! With Junk Warrior being his "Signature monster" and Stardust Dragon being his "Ace monster!"

Agree heavily on the Mirror Innovator pick, and I’m totally not biased because it’s my favorite rush duel card (along with ultimate flag mech ace breaker)

Did you know that while Zexal was airing, I think maybe around episode 30's, there was a fake summary that said Yuma was going to summon a chaos version of Leviathan Dragon. I always think of how cool that would have been and how it would have been neat to have Yuma let Shark borrow back Levathan Dragon at some point.

I'm surprised you didn't mention Dark Paladin when talking about Buster Blader. I have to agree that Magician Of Dark Chaos is forever under-rated. I am glad that it has gotten a few retrains over the years but it is one of the few DM monsters that honestly deserves more.

My personal pick is probably Hyper Engine Vast Vulcan. I get Magnum Overlord being his Maximum gimmick but Vulcan felt like such a different kind of ace monster. The only FIRE one! I loved how it embodied Yuga being a god of invention. It felt like it showed off his growth.
