Police provide update on Tacoma cold case investigation

WATCH: Tacoma Police Department spokesperson Shelby Boyd provided an update Tuesday morning on the cold case investigation at a home on the 3200 block of South Gunnison Street. Detectives started searching the home Monday morning after receiving a tip related to “an ongoing cold case investigation.” Law enforcement brought in an excavator and dug up part of the backyard Monday morning.

During Tuesday morning’s update to the media, Boyd said there were 147 active cold cases in Tacoma and could not share what case the tip was related to or if investigators had found any evidence during their search of the home.

When asked how long crews would be at the scene, Boyd said, “Until it’s done.” Boyd did confirm no other agencies are involved in the investigation.
