Every year Green Chimneys Teacher Michele McEneany leads an engaging unit on chickens. Her fifth and sixth graders learn about the life cycle of chickens. They monitor eggs in the incubator and watch for signs of hatching. They celebrate each chick’s arrival. This year 14 chickens were born under their watch. Students are helping to care for their fuzzy friends. Some students have even practiced reading aloud to the chicks. This is one of many ways the natural world is part of the Green Chimneys experience on our Clearpool campus. With great planning and therapeutic intention, students with special needs are learning from and connecting with nature.
