Hiya! Thanks for popping in to join the conversation 😀 I just thought I'd let you know that since I posted this, I have found a potential yarn for the Cuslett: Ancient Arts Lascaux Fine. It's ordered and on its way. I think it's going to be perfect Whoo hoo!
ОтветитьThat vest! LOVE!! I can't wait to see yours finished. Be sure to wear it on an upcoming episode.
ОтветитьYes, educated women who do something else very well also -- are so amazing and fun to know. Kamala aside, the author of the Outlander books, Diana Gabaldon, was teaching in university when she decided to write the kind of book she would like! So we got historic time travel romance. Actress Davina Porter narrates all the books for Audible. The books are better than the film, I think. This makes for heavenly listening along with knitting. . . . I am really enjoying your presentation and feel like I have a new kindred spirit. You seem stuck on teal, which happens to be my favorite color. As to vests, if you aren't in his growing Sunday hour in Paris for patrons, Franklin Habit just finished a vest very much like the one you showed. Blended colors. . .. . Mohair. I love it! There are all kinds, tho. I have a lot of vintage mohair, some top quality and some with up to 50% synthetic. I found a pattern for a ginormous poncho in a Vogue knitting book at the library. I hope to pick the best quality I have on hand and figure in the rectangles and squares they show in other colors. Then for other garments, I like Drops and I imagine I could use one of their designs in their fuzzy yarns at the gauge I get when I swatch. Also, Drops has some fuzzy yarns that might serve you as a mohair substitute. I love Drops except, alas, I never look like the girl in the picture!
ОтветитьHad to stop by and watch your video a second time. Your pattern recommendations were great. This time I wrote them down. I love your colours for the Wander Slipover.
ОтветитьMy heart melted at the name “majestic fluff.” Then you said “super baby alpaca!” I want it!!!
ОтветитьGreat video! I also have the Cuslett pattern and have been obsessing over Jennifer Beale's patterns. I might put together a dream colour combo for myself to ogle and buy eventually :)
ОтветитьMy approach to doing colorwork with an even tension is to twist/catch the yarn every other stitch regardless of the distance between stitches of a specific color. May be nuts in the opinion of some, but it's the only approach I've found that works consistently for me. It also creates a firm fabric. Good for many things. Not necessarily good for something that requires a lot of flow. But for a the items I've done in colorwork, it's worked very well.
I also added the Cuslett and the Mosaic Carpet Cushion into my favorites on Ravelry for some point in the future.
Yarns: I’m not crazy about mohair, not because I can’t wear it. I just don’t like feeling of it.
I have recently made a sweater in, Sandnes Garn, Tynn Peer Gynt (itchy) held together with Drops Brushed Alpaca Silk. This sweater I can wear next to the skin, without irritating my skin.❤
Well, darn, Frankie Grey Fibers is on Hiatus and not selling yarn right now.
I do love my joinery sweater and wear it a lot!
My all-time favorite manly pattern is Norah Guaghan's Beagle. So handsome. She's amazing. loved the patterns!
ОтветитьLol!!! Which mohair yarn works for you? 😂😂😂😂
I've got mohair in my stash for a kit that I'm terrified to work up. I can't be sensitive if I've never had any touch me.
Really enjoyed this episode thank you ! Loved the yarn in the sweater you're wearing . I hadn't realised how lucky I am to be able to wear mohair ,eeek ! I've knitted loads of things with a fungering weight yarn and mohair. About 5 Sophie scarves , the love note sweater, and a pinions poncho to name but a few 😀
ОтветитьWearing two mohair shawls as I watch and am considering pulling out the third (hey it's cold!). All three were Fleece Artist kits using a mohair boucle (might have been a blend). I made them decades ago and really don't remember the details 😁 Really great line up of patterns. I surprised myself with how much I like the Wander Slipover (not usually a fan of v-necks) and I do love the Tove Shirt, but my que is already stupidly long, so probably won't be adding either to the list, but you never know!
ОтветитьThe second sweater I ever knitted was a Norah Gaughan Vogue knitting fair isle, for my brother, way back in the 1980s. I was so proud of that piece!
ОтветитьIf I need to add a lace weight yarn to a project, I have used Alpakka Følgetråd from Sandnes Garn with great success. It comes in tons of colours. It is not fluffy, but adds colour and weight when you need to use a lace weight.
ОтветитьLove Jennifer Beale patterns! I'll also watch for the perfect yarn for that cardigan. I paused went to buy the sock pattern...mostly because I really liked the variations in the project pages❤. My goal next year is to try double-knitting...so I'm intrigued by your idea of using it in the cuff of a sock 🤔 😊
ОтветитьYour Wander vest swatch is wonderful. Can't wait to see your finished project. Thanks for your delightful videos. There's always a laugh out loud moment for me.
ОтветитьI personally hate Mohair with a passion - both working with it, and wearing it. After some cumbersome testing of many similar yarns out there I found three that always work for me, are great to work with, AND have a good price (my opinion): Holst Garn Titicaca (100 % alpaca), Holst Garn Lucia (42% Baby Alpaca, 35% Mulberry Silk, 13% Merino Wool and 10% Yak), and Istex Einband. Einband feels rather firm and scratchy but becomes softer with each washing (especially if you use some hair conditioner during the washing) - my one year old nephew loves napping with/ on my Einband scarf and refuses to use anything else 😂. For me it´s great to get those extra lightweight but warm outdoor garments (when combined with any unspun yarn).
ОтветитьI think you should marl swatch the two blues - soft yack and majestic fluff together - see what happens! I am always amazed at the magic of marling. And thank you for introducing us to these designers and patterns. Your Wander swatch is GORGEOUS!!
ОтветитьAppreciate the detailed breakdown! A bit off-topic, but I wanted to ask: I have a SafePal wallet with USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). How can I transfer them to Binance?
ОтветитьThat Cuslet cardi is stunning in the pale blue on Ravelry. All fabulous Nicole. Thanks for your research efforts 🙋🏼🏴
p.s. your swatches are beauts ❤
I love working with mohair and but I can't wear it. Gift knitting mohair only for me. I've used malabrigo silkpaca and yarnundyed baby alpaca but i think they have brushed merino i want to try too. Edited to add: the colors for your Tove sweater are similar to the hand-dyed i pulled from my stash for a day and night cowl. Something about that shade of blue mixed with a sort of rainbow multi.
ОтветитьFantastic! You have great taste! I’m interested to see which crochet patterns take your fancy as well 😊
ОтветитьBuy more grey.
ОтветитьNicole, have you looked at the Cariad Fiber Art selection for your favorite? Loving that Bfl. I don’t remember what weight your sweater called for. I think my favorite tonight is the Bolin Cardigan. Do check out the Cariad though for years! Do love your podcasts!
ОтветитьWhy not use merino for the Cuslett sweater? Does it have an itch factor? I haven’t ever seen those other sheep’s wool you’ve mentioned. Would you think about doing an educational video about different wools and the differences in the way they can be spun? I keep hearing about woolen spun yarns and have no clue what that means….
Looking forward to seeing those socks with the unique color combo…
It's always fun to hang out with you and Oscar. 😊 On the subject of Norah Gaughan's books, have you checked out her Knitted Cable Source book? Swoon-worthy! Oh, and as a P.S., perhaps Oscar would be willing to compromise and have you make him a cashmere blend dog bed? You could even work a mosaic pattern into it with some of your cashmere blend scraps! 😉😄
ОтветитьI print my patterns too. How do you store them? I wonder how techies work without printed patterns.
ОтветитьLove all of these. I think the colors you have for the socks will be beautiful 😻
ОтветитьThank you for this great episode! 🫶🏻
Personally, I only like the Cuslett cardigan, but it's really good! I'll definitely knit it. I particularly like the asymmetries and the change in structure, which makes knitting more exciting (I get bored quickly doing the same thing over and over again, especially since I'm tall and wear XXL, the torso part can sometimes seem to take forever).
I also absolutely can't wear mohair - no matter which manufacturer. My alternative is the base Clarabella (from Italy), which is made of baby alpaca, mulberry silk and extra-fine merino and which I dye myself.
Warm greetings from halfway around the world from Austria! I'm always so happy when there's a new episode of you and Oskar❤️
I love the Wander Slipover and it has been added to my que for next year! thank you
ОтветитьI’m really impressed by your colour sense! Love the colours for the Tove Shirt though it’s a bit beyond my expertise right now. But I’m definitely excited to try the slip-stitch socks.
ОтветитьLike your 3 color swatch so much better than the 2 of the pattern! Beautuful!
ОтветитьJungle Flowers: I would be so much more comfortable if you bought more of the dark grey. It's such a perfect contrast to the warm colours you plan to use with it. Also, that is one gorgeous swatch. The vest will be beautiful.
ОтветитьYarns: it still may not work for you, but Biches et Buches silk-mohair is LIGHT YEARS softer than Rowan Kid Silk Haze. When in Norway earlier this year, I also brought home a skein of Rauma Garn Alpaca Silk, and it also passes the “stick it under the bra strap and wear it” test. With both of these, I forgot the skein was tucked inside!!!! An alternative is to not two-strand—. I bought both Kos (Sandnes Garn I thin) and CaMaRose Snefnug in Norway. Both are blown yarns, light as a cloud, and soft soft soft. I made the Karla Cardigan by Anne Ventzel in the Snefnug which has cotton (not nylon as with the Kos) as the tube. I love it so much I’m scouting around for another pattern to have this floaty winter hug in a pullover. Last bit…I heard that the Danish don’t “do” schematics. Total bummer…the insanely popular Mette of Petite Knits doesn’t include schematics! I may make a croquis (body outline) so I can sketch up my own using pattern info. Anyway, waving hi from Maine!
Ответитьyou surely do do your homework when giving the deets of these patterns. Thank you for that. i had a thought, your swatches would make nice wrist warmers. some of those patterns are wayyyyyy out of my league of knitting skills but i adore all of them. i can't wait to get there though. you have a blessed Holiday season. how ever you celebrate. again, Thank you.
ОтветитьLove Jennifer Beale’s designs! Also loved your swatch for the vest. ❤. These posts are so much fun. I really tried not to make them expensive too 😂
ОтветитьIt's more the designers. Norah and Jennifer are definitely worthy of a closer look. Thanks. I enjoy your videos, even if I don't make/use the info. But I keep them for later.
ОтветитьReally cool search! I’m rethinking this pattern.
ОтветитьI liked all of these patterns- but especially what you’re wearing. I too have a large pattern stash - I’m slowly purging it- I won’t live long enough to knit them all so I’m bagging a pattern and it’s yarn and it will be my go to for when I have castonitis! You know what I mean! I so enjoy your episodes and look forward to the next one! Although I tend to watch and make notes and watch again! Love my retirement!!
ОтветитьLove, love, love the Cuslett. Looks like a bit of a challenge for me, but I like to learn new techniques with every project.
ОтветитьOw I want to make all these projects. You hit it out of the park. Love the Bolin. I like the longer sleeves though it could be crazy making
ОтветитьFor the socks, I’d consider using the large variegated skeins for the base and alternating the 3 oranges as the accents (instead of 6 different accents)
ОтветитьThe Bolin Cardigan sleeves would drive me CRAZY! But it's a great pattern. I love Cuslett also but I hate color work. Maybe stranded for me also but I'm not a very experienced knitter, and I do get flummoxed reading patterns.
ОтветитьHi Nicole. I have used Duo on two projects and really like it. I think you’ll be happy
ОтветитьUber-lucky human that can wear mohair. I've made April cardigan and a self-designed lace scarf in knitting for olive mohair paired with their merino. I've also used Lana Gatto and Lana Grasso mohairs. I've used the Lana Gatto lavender color mohair single strand for a beautiful light lace scarf, called chalice one ball scarf. It is so light, I want to double the width and triple the length for that scarf. I have some of lana gatto mohair left. I also used Lana Grasso mohair in an orange color for use in a scarf called river run. River run shawl by mango moon is a great stash buster, and the pattern is written so that you can do your own thing within the pattern. I made mine in shades of orange, green, and dusty pinks. Get tons of compliments when I wear it. I want to make another River Run with blues and greens. The picture shown on ravelry for the pattern I do not like at all. However, a LYS has 5 different River Run Shawls displayed and they are really cool and amazingly beautiful. Those shawls that were displayed in the LYS made me knit the pattern. I chatted with the owner, who made them, and she said you can really make the pattern your own. Which is true!
Ha Ha Ha! I also have a Himalya type area - as Monty Python Holy Grail states, Huge Tracts of Land. LOL😂
