This is a really great comparison that shows just how well thought out Woodpecker products are compared to others. Using these daily, I can see the great advantage for a product that would last a lifetime of use. Thanks.
ОтветитьSo is $229 worth it vs $20 and there is no significant machining/precision difference? I don't see how Woodpeckers is still a thing.
ОтветитьThis is a good video, however you did not ever check (on camera) for the products actually being square.
Unfortunately, square is not a given, and depending what you are building it can be very important.
I tried a 5 star rated set of corner clamps from Amazon in August of 2022.
A lot of attention was put into making the set look beautiful.
Too bad the beauty was only skin deep, the inside faces of all four corner clamps were significantly out of square making that clamping surface unsuitable for anything I build.
It is hard to understand how the CNC managed to make the outside corners square and then make the inside corners out of square.
I thought about trying a different cheap set or just buying the Woodpeckers.
I went ahead and got the Woodpeckers version, and as expected the faces are all square.
For me this is one of those things that does not get used a lot, but when it is needed, it is very handy to have.
I suppose something about Chinese made junk and copycats ought to be mentioned..no offense to anyone in china, but I don't live there and my country and way of life comes first..
ОтветитьMost important for me would be if they are perfectly square. I recently returned a set to the local store because they weren't square.
ОтветитьI do not understand American companies. I want to support them but Jesus we are proud of our shit.
ОтветитьA fantastic comparison of these clamps. Thank you.
ОтветитьWorst clamps ever:
- impossible to tigten just with your hands, it just doesn't hold strong enough tightened just by hand. Those hand screws are not something you can grip well;
- lot of hassle using these, takes time to screw, unscrew, adjust etc.
yes i think your a bafoon
ОтветитьBiased , therefore useless to me.
ОтветитьDamn it. I'm constantly telling myself I''m not overpaying for Woodpeckers stuff... the keyed block pretty much sells it for me. I have like 4 sets of the 140s and I thought they were fine until I remembered all my setup frustrations every time I use them. I do NOT want to spend Woodpeckers money. Look what you're making me do.
ОтветитьFairly, though, I get those clamps closer to properly set during dry fit.
ОтветитьI have used the non-Woodpecker corner clamps quite a bit and I do find them to be quite fiddly, but they do indeed work. For me, if I did woodworking for a living I could justify the cost of Woodpeckers, but I’m just a hobbyist. I can live with the non-Woodpeckers brand. Good review.
Ответитьit would depend on how much youre going to use that item, the easier to use one would be worth it if you were using it all the time.. i bought some a couple of months ago and have only used them once so far.. im glad i bought the cheap ones lol
ОтветитьGot to admit,I was steering toward the lower price on Amazon---course correction ,back to Woodpeckers I do like their stuff
ОтветитьI'm sorry, this is a laughable review. It is very obvious that you made the lesser-cost clamp seem more clumsy than the Woodpeckers version. All you had to do was put your thumb on the j-bolt while clamping down. You also didn't have to have the knob extended out so far to make it look so complicated. This is not a non-biased review. It clearly is biased and unfortunate.
ОтветитьI bought those banggoods once. Totally not square. Almost ruined a project.
ОтветитьSeriously, if I was selling draws and picture frames to millionaires who are framing a million dollar painting, I would buy the Woodpecker clamps. But for a guy making a simple cabinet draw and wants to hold two pieces of wood together for 12 hrs, while the glue sets, is it worth the extra $300? Neither do I boast about how expensive my tools are to my friends. Hey if a $19 set does the job, buy it! As they say only a bad carpenter blames his tools and I am a simple guy pursuing a hobby! BTW, great video.
Ответить3 different companies reinventing the wheel. No major differences between all 3
ОтветитьI get that the Woodpecker ones are better but I doubt they are like $250 better. BTW the one where your finger keep hitting, take the knob off and throw a stack of washers under the knob, will work a lot better.
ОтветитьThanks
ОтветитьGreat review. I can't believe you held my attention for 20 minutes on such a simple tool. I don't own any woodpeckers stuff because I'm a hobbyist, not a pro. But I can see where the woodpeckers is the superior tool, but at $270 for the full set.....good lord!!!
I was a professional mechanic for years. I own a lot of Snap-On, Mac, and Matco tools. It's the same thing. For a pro doing it day in and day out and time being a concern, snap-on stuff is worth the money in many areas. But for the hobbyist, it doesn't make sense.
Very well done video. Extremely detailed info, great for anyone who is considering purchasing a set.
ОтветитьThank you this video had useful info (particularly significance of screw head length) that helped me make a choice. found a set on amazon that length is 1.5" should be long enough
ОтветитьI bought the cheaper ones before I saw this. I got very frustrated by the size of the holes in the bracket, so I measured up the diameter of the J bolt and drilled an additional hole between the existing ones. I picked a drill bit so it's a real snug fit, so snug I have to give it a twist as it goes in, they can't fall out on their own now and is much better. I did have to give the ends of the J bolts a bit of a touch up on the grinder as they must use a guillotine to cut them and it deforms the end a bit.
Hope this helps.
Did you check square?
ОтветитьGreat imformative video im going to press the button on some of these. For box construction can you get away with 4 or would you recommend buying 8
ОтветитьNice review as always although I can't understand why you didn't check them for accuracy on the 90 degree. I would have thought that a pretty fundamental "must have"? Not much point clamping at 85 degrees LOL (I don't seriously expect them to be out of square but in a review, I would have expected a check none the less ;) )
I have the Drillpro set and they have one feature you didn't mention. They have holes in the bars which allow you to screw them down to your bench and use them in a holding/set-up/jiggy-type way. I have found that to actually be very useful - maybe even more than the "traditional" way.
I was really impressed with the extra thinking that has gone into the Woodpecker set to increase the ease of use. Seriously well designed and an example of where the premium price tag money went :)
Where do u get the f-style clamps for this separately?
ОтветитьExcellent video. How they should be made; no loud music and exaggerations. If I could afford them, Woodpecker is way to go. Thus, I went with cheap set on Amazon.
ОтветитьOne of the most nit picking and biased reviews I've seen in a long time! Always looking for an issue where in reality, none exists if the user uses a slightly different technique. . I make no wonder that he doesn't state prices as the Woodpeckers is 4 times the cost of the Drillpro. Clearly a sales pitch for the overpriced US version.
ОтветитьWow you really helped me to decide which one to buy. I'm on the market on this. There is a different version 1/4 the price of the 140mm
Ответитьtldw; Woodpecker is just nicer to use, but the others are cheaper.
ОтветитьI love how he is picking out the minor details to say a clamp set that cost over 4 times as much is better. He sounds like Woodpecker is paying him.
ОтветитьSorry, but woodpecker is very much overpriced. I have been using the cheaper version for years and they work perfectly. I just can't justify the one from woodpecker.
ОтветитьWhat about the accuracy of the 90 degree corner clamps? I bought 4 from the same manufacturer and 1 was 89.2 degrees, 1 was 89.5 degrees, 1 was 89.7 degrees, and the last one was 89.8 degrees. Doesn't sound like they are off much but it shows up immediately (unfortunately I didn't check them before I used them!). The latter 2 are usable, but the first 2 are worthless. How accurate are Woodpecker 90 degree clamps?
ОтветитьI tried over and over again to make these things work. I think they suck. I like to use a band clamp when I have to make a box with square corners.
ОтветитьCome on, the biggest thing in question here is the accuracy. Does the added accuracy of the Woodpecker yield better results than a China version that's off just a tick. Do a side by side comparison showing either one working better or no noticeable difference between them. How accurate do our tools need to be for woodworking? Woodpecker seems to think were machinists, do we need to work in THAT level of tolerances for wood? I've yet to see someone showing the end results probably because there isn't and difference.
ОтветитьExcellent breakdown of the differences between the clamps. It helped make my decision. Thanks!
ОтветитьSmall knobs size is good because they don’t take up as much space as the Woodpeckers one does.
ОтветитьI think you missed the point entirely in comparing these clamps. You focused the entire comparison on ease or difficulty is using or positioning the clamps and not how they performed. The big difference is that the sloppy fit of the rod in the holes in the Banggood allows the clamp to rack when tightened making them almost useless. The shorter length of the sliding foot magnifies the racking. If the holes in the Banggood were sized properly it would function as well the woodpeckers.
ОтветитьSoo you can have the woodpecker version or…. An entire workshop… and a car….and a tropical vacation. It’s an aluminum 90°. Woodpecker needs to get over itself
Ответитьget the woodpeckers version----i have both, woodpeckers are MUCH better------buy them and you will come to the same result rick
ОтветитьGreat comparison video - thank you
ОтветитьAlthough the Woodpeckers 4-piece set might be better from a technical perspective, the corresponding Banggood corner clamps, which effectively do the same job, offer excellent value for money: they are a mere one fifth the price of the Woodpeckers. Additionally, we mustn’t overlook the fact that we get used to the tools we use; and, with time, whatever minor flaws or inconveniences our tools have quickly disappear. It all comes down to a simple consideration: is the price really worth the perceived quality, or is this an unjustifiable increase to my overhead?
ОтветитьI find the J-bolts on those clamps to be too short on some thicker boards.
ОтветитьGood idea
ОтветитьI 3D printed mine, cheap and very light. I thought you would have done the same
ОтветитьWoodpecker is too expensive for what it is.. waste of money. If someone struggles putting on a clamp - its time to find a new hobby. I have some cheep chinese clamps like that.. the J bolt is longer than that short one and its perfect square. It was 1/5th of the price. I have some expensive tools but they have to bring value if they cost a lot
