Draining $400-$800 Million for household budgets DAILY for the increase in price of gas alone, and sending that to countries that chant for our demise was a BAD THING? Huh! Who would have thought!? Boggles the mind.

when the higher ups of true value per say the CEOs make over 365 thousands a year and they spend over budget ,giving bonus to CEOs knowing the sales are not equal to sales ,then yes they lose , true value wont tell why they are bankrupt, such as the CEOs are getting a severance pay over their yearly pay ,and bonus to say on after the case is closed, yet they are not telling the lower employees they are all going to be jobless, and the retired pensioners will not receive their pensions, nor medical.True value is all about looking after the higher up that were the cause for this bankrupcy it has nothing to do with COVID it is all about greed,so with all this said ,I pray that all the CEOS looking for future jobs are not worth hiring due to them being a cause for the company of true value declaring bankruptcy never hire a ceo that has driven a company to lose its worth, due to personal greed,

Most people don't see TV as the kind of place you can go to and get things to take on DIY projects, grab some ideas on how to do them> Although TV still employs staff who can actually offer some useful advice customers, as shown by their buying habits today, don't think they need that level of support for the jobs they are doing. Another thing that is ignored but very important to business is well the contractors go to buy. HD or Lowes have extensive inventory and selections which contractors can run in, grab and move out. TV has a lack of standardized stores which don't easily connect to the contractor's world. Today contractors operate in a hyper competitive world where every penny is watched closely. For people like me, who do a project now and then and don't have to do it for a living using TV often makes sense. But even for me I find TV doesn't have what few items I need for DIY projects.

The Biden economy, sales are down with anything tied to Real Estate. Lowes and Home Depot are struggling also.
True Value sold better quality items than Home Depot or Lowes which are now just selling Chinese junk.

Ace Hardware priced himself out of the market. Just like the rest of the hardware stores are going to. Do you trying to compete against Walmart? Home depot Lowe's. They need to get a reality check going on. Someone needs to do a better job of buying material

Fewer and fewer DIYers in the U.S.. Home owners grow old. Young people cannot afford to buy home and, even if they can, they hire contractor or handyman to fix their home.

My town lost its last hardware store this month. It was a locally owned and had been there for 30 years. Now a round trip run is nearly 20 miles to the next closest store, 21 if I want to go to one that sells lumber.

What is really stupid is Homedepot has plans to open a new location in the area, but instead of moving into the now empty location in my town (which would be a turn key and have no competition), they choose to build it in the town over that already has 3 hardware stores (also locally owned). Obviously there are objections.

There is a True Value in my town, competing with Home Depot, Menards & Fleet Farm. (Wis companies). I hope our True Value stays in business as it is the first place I like to check out as they have things the big stores don't. Home Depot is the last place I go to.

Local Home Depot doesn’t carry lumber, that’s an immediate strike , the Lowe’s is ok if you know what you need, the local True Value is staffed by people that have worked in the lumber/hardware business for years, they’re knowledgeable and treat you like a human being

Growing up, HWI hardwares were usually better stocked with a wider variety of hard to find items than either ace or TV. I very often can't find what I need at the area's largest and best stocked Ace stores, and they all (about 7 local stores I drive around to) are bad about keeping up with stock outages. They can go months or sometimes years before they restock things like springs and fasteners. There is no shortage of these items, just nobody at the stores cares enough to check the status.

I Have a standard true value. shopped that a few times when it first opened, but I usually don't usually shop there because their prices are usually a lot higher than the Ace hardware I just down the street. Because I was comparing prices for some hardware for a gift for my father and. I walked in that store I was like oh boy I'm not spend that much.

I worked PT for 10 years at a True Value Hardware Store and enjoyed it very much. It was a small store in a small suburban village and I got to know many of the customers by name. Sadly a Home Depot went up very near to us and after a couple years we just couldn't keep our head above water. The loss of personal service is huge.

The Do-It-Best near me does not have lumber and other such construction supplies. Nor does it have large appliances. It does have a better selection of screws, bolts, buts and the like. Also art supplies and equipment rentals.

Our local hardware store is a Miners' True Value Hardware Store. The Miners family has 5 hardware stores in the area. There is a Home Depot 15 miles from here, Miners is our right around the corner type of local business and it has a wide variety of stock and good and friendly employees. My experience with Home Depot is that you pretty much have to know exactly what you want before you get there because the employees are over worked and few and far between.

As a point of reference I spent 40 years in the hardware/home center industry: first working for a wholesaler and then for 3 different manufacturers. My brother is currently a rep in the hardware/home center industry. What the public knew as True Value Hardware was actually a co-op wholesaler started by a man named John Cotter and was called Cotter & Company. It was based in Chicago on Clybourn Ave. Its member stores were called True Value Hardware stores.

Your first statement in the description is true: True Value (TV) stores are independent. The second statement is not: the stores are not declaring bankruptcy, only the wholesaler known as TV is. There is no reason to believe the individual stores are in any danger from TV Wholesale going out of business. They can purchase goods from Orgill Distribution out of Memphis, Do-It-Best (formerly HWI) out of Ft. Wayne, IN and from ACE Hardware's independent wholesale division called Emery/Jensen distribution. The co-op was sold to a holding company which knew nothing about the industry and ran them into the ground. At one time TV was the largest of the hardware co-ops; ACE Hardware has since become #1. Part of Americana now.

Go there over Home Depot for run of the mill small project stuff. It’s quicker and the people there know what they have and how to help. Also, true Value and one of the Do It Best sells Benjamin Moore paint. I’d hate to see True Value die out.

Ace Hardware where I live was tough to shop at. Lowes and HD are within 2 miles of the store and Ace's prices just couldn't compete. I like shopping local but I can't justify paying double for and item when I can just go another 5 minutes down the road to a store that has more options. It sucks but that's the truth.
