Trigonometry was more or less invented in the 16th century, with Georg Joachim Rheticus providing the first good tables of the trigonometric functions – sines, tangents, etc. Pitiscus was of the second generation of trigonometers, and he published a treatise in 1595.
He coined the word trigonometry in this book. His book was the first book to have Trigonometry as its title
His book contains trigonometric tables and how to use trigonometry to measure heights
Is explained with examples.
Pitiscus is often credited with inventing the decimal point, the symbol separating integers from decimal fractions.
There is another feature of Pitiscus’s life that I find as intriguing as his contributions to trigonometry, and that is the fact that he died on his birthday 24 august.
