according to google the tu 160 has a top speed of mach 1.6, and the f 35 is mach 1.3. So, it does make sense if it is true. None of this matters if the f 35 can out maneuver, and out shoot it.

As someone else pointed out, if you make the bomber turn back/away from the target , the intercept was successful 👍. It's acknowledged that the F35 is slow, and not going to run down a mach 2 plane. Remember though, supersonic flight requires afterburners, a whale like the TU160 is going to gulp down a huge amount of fuel. The question is, how close did the F35's get to the Blackjack, before their crew noticed the F35's? Assuming this really happened, which everyone involved is denying 🤔. Also the TU160 is a pretty big radar target itself. 🛰

I saw that video. I was looking for it again and found this one. TU-160 turned on after burners and disappeared. the scene was spectacular!

If the TU 160 would have outrun a F.35 , The 160 would last about 10-15 mins in full afterburner before it called Bingo Fuel.
