The Odroid N2+ and SBC'S with the A311D are better options.

pi4 is great for a recalbox or Batocera image but mine stops at ps1 and arcade. I don't even bother with heavier stuff as I keep my nespi4 with a simple Batocera image the whole family can enjoy and easily use. My fav is my Pandora box 18s⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Is impressive that this stuff can run games from Dreamcast, PS2, PSP, Gamecube. But the emulation is not perfect at all..glitches will happen and is just not the best way to fully enjoy this retro games. Is better to run them on original hardware, nothing can't beat that.

My take is that these little machines are fun yet expensive (at the moment), but what is important is the quality of emulation. And for that reason, Windows on a PC wins, I don't need a size dependant machine, I don't need multiplayer, I just want the games to run as close to the real hardware as possible. For that reason I use a PC with Win 10 on, my PC is at least 15yrs old but Redream, the ever improving PCSX2 and many others are having fantastic work put in to them by the devs. I got an A500 mini as a present but there's games that simply struggle on it, Jim Power etc, yet my age old PC runs them at steady full frame rate under WinUae. People may well hate MS and they fully deserve it, but all the best running emulators are on that platform with regular updates. Suits me...

If you are going to go to the expense of something like an Odroid N2+, then go for one of the newer RK588S boards, which are way more powerful and have already reached the stage that they can run the likes of Batocera (soon to see Retropie too it seems)and have great emulation under Android too.

Thanks for showing us these alternatives.. I had regret not getting pi4 when they were easily available and very cheap but now I don't feel so bad cuz as you've shown, there's many alternatives ..

Thanks for the helpful video. We're spoiled for choice as the RPi is expensive and outdated so really comes down to what you seek as a budget X86 Mini PC is the logical choice as offers best value/performance but for most 8-16 bit systems a cheap Android/Pandora box is fine and 32 bit systems require at least A75 cores or higher as well as decent GPU and RAM which adds to overall cost. I'm loving the RK3588S as affordable and good Android support and handles some Steam using Linux.

Mini pc's are much better in my opinion, because they have the greatest variety in terms of software and systems. The ARM platform has its weaknesses in terms of supporting SBC vendors. Mainly I mean video acceleration, and older versions of linux krenel etc.

rpi4 emulation honestly isn't all that with the exception of psp (which chokes like a rabid dog playing games like god of war and dantes inferno),n64 and dreamcast. its pitiful at emulating even the old psx. those games look like crap on rpi4. now whether thats due to the emulator running those psx games chosen by teams like batocera or whomever or just due to the pi itself is debatable. all i know is im not impressed with the pi 4 after having purchased one. im moving on to mini pc for my emulation fix.

So I'm not a hardcore computer guy. I just want to play my old games from nes, snes, gb, gba, and some PS1 titles. What should I get?

Emuelec sucks balls. These days micro computers are so cheap. I just order a 8GB/!28GB intel miniPC to go with my Xbox and SNES USB controllers...faaark yeah. Dont fuck around with that over complicated horseshit.
