Not accounting for insufficient funds or auctions or the risk of building houses and having to sell them back at half price. These human decisions change the simple (?) mathematics calculated by likelihood of landing and expected return.

I once hoarded all of the ones and would only exhange 4 ones for a fiver. This ignors the rule that bank can force an exchange, but, i quickly was able to take all the fives aswell. I monopolized the currency itself...

Strategy involves knowing when to buy suboptimal properties based on the board state and knowing your opponents. Negotiation is huge

Monoploy is a great game, it can also cause immense arguments, we played it many times when i was a kid, My Father ALWAYS won the game, no matter what, he was an accountant by trade, so was always the banker, and admitted years later that he cheated
I would love to play this game again, with Dad, and someone else be the banker, but sadly that isn't possible

The best advice I was ever given in Monopoly was from my Grandad, who said to buy everything you land on. I was skeptical of this at first and would always try to be frugal with my money, but he would win time and time again so I tried his trick, and it works!

There are some exceptions. The utilities are absolutely worthless, don't bother. Train stations are excellent if you get multiple, always worth having. The cheaper properties like brown and light blue are excellent early game. Green is good to have as a bargaining counter and for development late game if you can get the set. Dark blue only buy if you have decent money to spare, or if you're playing with someone who isn't clued up and really wants them (sell it to them later at a crazy high rate)

Chances are you won't get the properties you want, and other people will land on the things and buy the things you wanted to buy. So if you buy lots of different properties from lots of different sets you have lots to bargain with and can trade to get exactly what you want. I usually try to get as many train stations as I can, get the brown and light blues, and then develop whichever higher paying set I have or can get additional cards for.

Unless I get terrible dice rolls, I usually do quite well

i was quite successful at Monopoly with "buy everything you can whenever you can" period.

Monopoly is something I don't play anymore...after years of playing it I had get it out of my life

Buy one plot of each street, and hold on to them, delaying anyone from building, then trade the cheaper ones, works every time

Monopoly is about demonstrating the pitfalls of rentier capitalism and also neatly shows that without fiscal injections of money from the central bank no one can play. So clearly taxation comes after monetary authority spending

I can’t say I always win, but I have been very successful by buying every property I landed on. I noticed a lot of players don’t. They wait to land on the ones they want. Because I bought everything I could I had constant income even if I did not have big money properties. So inevitably I stayed in the game as others quit when they went bankrupt. Unfortunately I must say that this inspires a lot of cheating as players will insist on breaking rules to gang up on you. In those cases you must live with the satisfaction it took everyone cheating against you to defeat you.

I really like the fact that we all collectively agree that Monopoly is a terrible, terrible game, that it's just never really fun.
And if you say you actually like it, you're lying.
