isnt anybody else annoyed that a movie is being made?!? i mean, how on earth are they gonna even come close to the magic that the book of shantaram is, in a 2 hr motion picture?? we all have the movie already playin in our own heads with our own imagination. i for one feel that a movie could destroy this picture.

eyoo i think the movie has been in the making for quite a while now. i hear it should come out in a year or 2... but they had/are having some sort of problems which started with the writers strike. if you just google it you'll find more info.

Gregory - is Karla real? Is Lisa real? Was Prakabar real - a lovely wonderful guy. Shantaram is the best book I have read for years and has totally got under my skin. like many great books, movies will be made, and yes no justice can come of a truly fantastic novel, but take the movie for what its worth, perhaps they can do a decent job of presenting it, and for some people that do not read, it will be a good experience. There are other movies made from great books (The Power of One is a good example),. that do not come close to doing the book any justice, but accept it as part of life, just another movie! Those of us who know better just know better

And I don't like the method of hollywood in general: they take all the most important and beautiful stories and movies of human history, they pay some good looking, famous actor and do the remake (Troy, Peter Pan, The Lord of the rings etc. etc). It' s like they want to possess that magic forever, by putting a copyright on it, and prevent that the people use his fantasy too much. It' s a theft that you can' t measure in money. It's the globalization of minds, and it's sad.

Ralph Fiennes, Daniel Craig, Russell Crowe, or Christian Bale could all play Lin I feel, Depp would make a good Didier. If Depp loves this book as much as he says and wants to do it justice if they ever get around to making a film, he should surrender his plans to play Lin and let someone who resembles Lin play him. I also think showtime or something should get hold of this story and make a mini series out of it...kind of a band of brothers type thing...would be amazing
