I think if they just did Arthas story, they don't actually have to do any exposition or explain the "orcs vs humans" part. I think the story can stand on its own, without having to explain anything and be insanely good to an average viewer who has not played the games.

You could do the "The beginning" movie afterwards like you point out, but I don't think it's that interesting personally. The only S tier story in Warcraft lore IS the Arthas story, SO FUCKING TELL IT, SHOW IT, YOU HAVE SOMETHING SO GOOD, DO YOU NOT LIKE MONEY BLIZZARD? WHAT THE FUCK MAN

Declaring that the warcraft lore is garbage while you have zero understanding of the lore 😂

Warcraft lore is already shaky at best, it was MOSTLY comprehensive prior to Cataclysm, then things started to go off the rails and plot holes and contrivances started appearing from every corner of the writing, obviously getting worse as time went on.

The timeframe this movie handles however, is possibly some of the most detailed lore we have, it would have 100% been a better movie had it just followed WoW lore. It's crazy to me because some people even went on to say the movie is for people new to the warcraft IP and yet the story is the only thing that has changed and its become a broken blender of garbage, and it makes me wonder if this movie pulls people into the Warcraft IP, what are they gonna think when they actually play or read-up on the in-game lore an realize literally nothing is the same?

Garona going from being Medivh's love interest in-game to his daughter in-movie, Alodi being unrecognized as the first Guardian of Tirisfal (Dalaran's leadership would be aware of this, they kept detailed records on the Guardianship), having almost no information given as to how Medivh became corrupted other than his final words.

Huge Doa W. Massive Monte L.

The orc CGI is best-in-class and much less uncanny valley than Thanos and the Children of Thanos and anything in Star Wars.

Setting apart the one relatable orc, Durotan, among a savage horde is exactly the right approach for this movie which needs to establish that these are not Tolkien orcs that are irredeemable evil beings. Orcs in Warcraft being legitimate heroic figures is one of the most defining features of this IP.

I am actually surprised you guys didn't know this movie was based of off the Warcraft book. That book is actually pretty good. It's not like an all time great book, but it's a fine read. The only issue is that the book is a pretty low key, sort of detective story. But they wanted to make it into a blockbuster and lost everything good about the book.

Alsooooo league and warcraft have the same lore history if you look at it noxus, demacia, horde and alliance. Void gods in freljord void gods in warcraft who stops the void gods other gods lissandra or odin you pick the burning legion is essentially shurima and the darkin. Im here all night just ask . Lol

WoW wasn't a competitive game until late 2007 and 2008 when arena came out and took off, yet was ultimately neglected by Blizzard because they're historically awful with esports outside of StarCraft. I see why people who were into competitve RTS didn't gravitate to WoW in 2004 when it was heavily RPG. It was incredible though as a gaming experience for its time.

As someone that still plays WoW on and off, I'm with Monte on the lore 100%. 'Oh goodness, another intergalactical big bad has come to Azeroth to doom us all once again and me (the champion of Azeroth like six times over at this point and the main character of the world) has to save it once more. The game was much more enjoyable when you were essentially a random member of the horde or alliance just helping out the actual main characters such as Thrall, Varian, Jaina, Sylvanas etc before they took a dump on most of their characters over the last 10 years, especially Sylvanas.

I love this format because you disagree so often and passionately. It's great to see!
For me the Warcraft lore became boring garbage the moment they started this nonsense of uniting against a greater evil. It is such fanservice crap. And endlessly dragging the same characters along, having them ally or oppose anything completely arbitrarily on a whim just so they can be relevant in whatever is happening on the day.

It was underrated gem, flawed in some parts, but full of soul and passion for the lore and franchise. Shame it wasn't appreciated enough by slop-eating crowd and now we would never get story or WC2 and 3...

I thought it was a genuinely good effort and the visuals were second to none, but the plot just tried to squeeze in too many details and characters that it becomes a bit disorienting even as a fan, but especially for someone who doesn’t know the IP. I think if they cut some of the bloated plot this movie may have actually been a big enough commercial hit with general audiences to warrant a sequel or several sequels. They just jumped the gun with the first film and lost any opportunity to do more because of it

What really break me for Wow lore was the siege of Orgrimmar. It is like American is staging a coup with Russians (after Russian slaughter every American civilians in a neutral city too) because Eisenhower bombed Hiroshima. I’m legit like wtf is that logic, bombed a city during war is warcrime but slaughter civilians in neutral city isn’t?

I don't care what anyone thinks, this movie is actually good, it doesn't do the basic Arthus story but starts at the beginning of when even most fans didn't know about the lore as it happens pre-WoW. The CGI is amazing for its time and as we all understand now as an audience, not all CGI is bad, look at Jack Sparrow Octopus guy, or the orcs in this movie, it's all about the effort of the people working on it.
