So after Qndres placed those hunters, I so expected it to turn out he messaged them to be imposters.

my suggestion for a rematch lower the max on hunters and all hunters but the starting hunter(s) have to be summoned when kill. resummoning still provides a boost in health each time maybe even let the runner resummon their partners just at a scaling xp cost in addition to the base summon cost.
