Ok. I've got a question. I know that in western 2d animation there is a heavy division of labor between animators. If there are two characters interacting in the scene most of the time this is the work of two different animators each assigned to his own character. And if there are other elements like smoke, fire, etc there will be even more people involved.
Does the same apply to Japanese animators? Or are they just do the whole shot from start to finish? Excluding clean-up and coloring of course.

After watching that it just reminds how well animated Asuka vs the MP Evas is. There's such a brilliant sense of scale with these enormous lumbering creatures being thrown around and stomping all over the place. Most fight scenes with such large fighters are clean and just seem like scaled up little things, but the camera movement, destruction of the environment and how they look as though they move a little slower just make it look so freaking good. It's not all fast sword slashes as well, it's slow, precise and clunky hits that are being tossed around with a lot of impact behind them.

Oh man this video is vaping it up, no doubt!

On topic though, this was a very interesting look into the animation careers of directors I've come to know from being into anime for so long, and watching EoE pop up over and over kind of really solidified for me just why it's so phenomenal artistically. The weight that you can feel in Unit 02's fight is wonderful, and seeing so many prolific individuals having worked on it makes that a lot more understandable.

It also makes the weird mushroom episode in Samurai Champloo make waaaaay more sense, at least artistically.

Just to be clear the songs are
From GITS: Replica, From the Rooftops, Ride on Technology, Access All Areas, Get9, Torukia
From Space Dandy: Gun Man Muller & Space Chantey.
There's two other songs one of which I couldn't find and another that I don't know what the translation is in English.

None of it is Blank Banshee.

great job, you know of anywhere else where i can find out what specific scenes were animated by who, outside of Sakugabooru? i don't know of a database that specific... i ask, since you made me notice the differences in the "asuka fight" scene (my favorite, so beautiful) between animators (again thanks for that, great knowledge), but how can i find out that about other works (for example shows like naruto that changes so constantly of staff between episodes, i know that i can find that in the naruto wiki, but i only use it as an example), this video is inspiring, hope you can answer...and again thanks for the recomendation of the booru

Yes. The answer to the last question would be yes.
Those people are amazing. They make the best stuff there is and they're even responsible for the the best scenes within these shows. I wonder what a show would look like directed by Norio Matsumoto or Yukata Nakamura. It will probably beat everything else there is xD

I'm so sad that there isn't any more from Hayao Miyazaki. There must be more. I'm sure that he probably animated about half of the shows Sherlock Hound and Mirai Shounen Conan on his own ^^

That's a really great reel, but I wonder, wold there be any chance to get some commentary on each animator/director's style? I'm new to anime and I would love to hear more about what makes each of these people special.

(if you already talked about them at length before, sorry, I'll dig through your channel)
