Auld Lang Syne is a poem written by Robert Burns in 1788, and set to an old Scottish folk melody. This melody has grown so popular that it's used as a football chant for various teams, a national anthem, and all over the world as a closer for a bunch of different events, most signifying endings or new beginnings. And so, of course, Auld Lang Syne is *the* NYE anthem, and perfect for my channel year in review.

Fun fact/nerd fact! The Auld Lang Syne melody is a pentatonic one, which is one of the reasons it fits matches so many countries' and cultures' common scales. It also makes it perfect for practicing runs.

I tried my best to cut back on runs and do a simple version to sing along to. But if you're curious as to what the heck a pentatonic scale is, and what it's got to do with vocal runs (or what vocal runs even are), check out this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MOYuMsO8FzA

I hate the party version, so we're all piano over here (get it? no? comment for help).

I sing the English version of Auld Lang Syne - often called "old lang syne", "for auld lang syne", or variations thereof. However, the original poem was written in Scottish. I recommend giving Wikipedia's IPA pronounciaton guide for Robert Burns' Ayrshire dialect a go. I tried, but-uh..

Anyway, that's enough talk. I just want to THANK YOU for being here with me in 2020. For watching, commenting and liking and making me feel more welcome on YouTube. I really appreciate you.

So, let me wish you a HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
And I'll see you in 2021

Take care, stay safe, and have the best start to the new year.

Xx Hege
