The NOAA Central Regional Collaboration Team hosted a special webinar on Feb 10, 2021 tailored for NWS local offices in the NOAA Central Region, to showcase two great climate and drought resources.

The webinar included Dr. Natalie Umphlett, Regional Climatologist at the High Plains Regional Climate Center (HPRCC), and Molly Woloszyn, Regional Drought Coordinator at the National Integrated Drought Information System (NIDIS).

Background:

Last summer, the HPRCC launched its new website (https://hprcc.unl.edu/), which features an updated design and several new tools. The first portion of webinar provided a brief tour of the new site, along with a demonstration of 1) the new Station Data Explorer tool, which features over 15 new graphing capabilities, 2) the new Climate Summary Gauges tool, and 3) the High Plains Extremes resource page.

In January 2021, the National Integrated Drought Information System (NIDIS) launched a redesigned U.S. Drought Portal (www.drought.gov) to better serve stakeholders, decision makers, the media, and the public. The second part of the webinar included a tour of the new website, which features updated content and a new interactive architecture. The website is designed to provide actionable, shareable information and easy-to-understand graphics describing current drought conditions and forecasts by city, zip code, county, state, and from watershed to global scales.

The recording is available on the NOAA Central Region Collaboration Team homepage. This site also features a new “Regional Climate Services Resources and Partners” page, designed to provide direct access to numerous tools and information on regional climate services partner organizations. We hope you find this to be a helpful resource and maybe a new bookmark!
