Back in 1975 while at MCRD Paris Island I had the misfortune of standing in formation outside of the mess hall at the rifle range when a seagull flew overhead and laid a perfect string of bird shit across my chest and my cover. When my S.D.I. saw me, he charged over yelling "What is that on your Private?" I said "Sir, bird shit Sir, he then said "Why did the bird shit on you?" I responded with " Sir, it was a commie bird Sir". He stared at me for a minute, and I thought I was about to die when he got a strange look on his face and then turned and walked away and I could see his shoulders starting to shake. I knew he was most likely laughing but would not let us see him do so. Guess what my "name" was after that.... you got it Shitbird.
ОтветитьI know it’s sounds strange but my DS never engaged in the stereotypical behavior. I went to basic in 1972, we had draftees, real volunteers, volunteers who wanted to avoid the infantry, and NG’s that just wanted to avoid everything. The DS for the other platoons did the screaming and “pushing” to their trainees. I don’t know if my DS had PTSD and was just burnt out but the other DS never hassled him. My assistant DS was rarely around, he had a lot of “medical” appointments. My DS did say over and over that we were going to Vietnam and we were going to die every time we screwed up.
ОтветитьWe had a former Navy Cheif in my platoon on PI. About halfway through he snapped. Three DI’s worked him over and he disappeared for a couple days. He came back and graduated Ironman.
ОтветитьWhen I was in boot camp before I got an ELS, I had a female DI that loved to drill us, and have us run some when we made any slight mistake
Ответитьlmbooooo

ОтветитьThis feels ai generated
ОтветитьDI got me a few days into bootcamp after pickup. Starts going nuts on me saying I rolled my eyes and disrespected him. Other DI's hear this and beeline over and start having some fun also. Being early on I got a little thrown off, especially since I'd never been told I do that or knowingly do that. I blurted out I wasn't. Things get turned to 11 for not doing "this recruit". Then he got very offended I was calling him a liar. Bad times followed for WEEKS until we left for pendleton. Anyone on the quarter deck, I got an invitation. IT'ing anywhere outside the barracks, same thing. And a few times everyday they'd go nuts about me rolling my eyes, like it was 5 minutes ago and I ended the performance by punting their childhood pet. I never broke down, gave attitude or a reason to just having me smoked with everyone. I didn't get it. Once we got to pendleton, it got cut back to like 25%-50%. Secretly I hoped it was because we'd be at the range soon 😂 flash fwd to night before graduation, already done with the crucible and got our EGA's. The guy I shared a rack with the whole time with goes, you know you never rolled your eyes right? Says I didn't think you did but I'd ask the guys across the bay to watch and see if you do it. They told him not a single time in the barracks. When I asked why didn't you tell me? What would it have changed? You only would have done something that would hurt you, we didn't want to see that happen. I teared up. That statement from him and learning the consensus of other guys in our plt agreed with. Was the exact moment I knew I made the right choice joining. There isn't a better organizational culture that the Marines. People looking out for me, and didn't even know it. But they knew I'd do the same. This is a light example, but you can see it in the civilian side. Our company is owned by a retired Marine. Decent sized, around 5k employees. We hire honorably discharged or reserve Marines almost sight unseen. And its pretty simple why. Day 1 introducing them around, and the connections instant with our culture. Another Marines essentially family, and are treated as such. Outside your wife and kids...That kind of bond between people is something few people on the planet will ever experience 😊
ОтветитьUr shorts are amazing
ОтветитьThey were tired after 10 hours of training??? We didn’t sleep for our first two days at Basic. And I’ve absolutely seen some useless recruits, but some just needed a bit more attention which is the job of the platoon guides (recruits who are selected to be in leadership roles as they to are enduring their introduction to the military process).
ОтветитьSomeone had fun in Boot Camp 😆
ОтветитьYour videos are amazing ❤

ОтветитьThis was told to my father in the 1960's, by the guys who went to boot camp with my grandfather. When my grandfather was drafted in WW2, he was sent from the Panhandle of Oklahoma to southern California for boot camp. When he got off the bus, the D. I. singled my grandfather out and proceeded to verbally berate my grandfather for just existing. My grandfather listened to him for a minute or so and then, while turning sideways from the D.I., proceeded to say, "I'm sorry, you must be talking to the guy behind me." The D.I. responded, "What do mean boy?" to which my grandfather responded, "You see, later on you are going to give me a gun, and some bullets, and expect me NOT to shoot you. You see, where I'm from, we still play Cowboys and Indians, but we use real guns." The men in Granddad's platoon told my father that by the time boot camp was over, the D.I.was calling my grandfather "Mr. (last name here)", because the D.I. was still concerned that a future shooting was never off the table.
