Amazon Fire TV Cube review

I had an older 1080p Fire TV and Decided to pick this one up to go with my 4K TV (Was just using my Xbox for Media purposes instead) and I really like it and works great for all my smart home stuff and some of the TV control I do use it for. I did jump on it when the pre-orders opened and I'm happy with the purchase

An unfortunate point you didn't touch on is that the Echo functionality built into the Cube is pretty watered down. A major omission, currently (please fix this Amazon!), is the lack of support for the "Drop In" or "Intercom" function. That's right - if you're downstairs killing zombies or watching a movie, you can't use one of the more popular Alexa skills to "call" another Echo and ask for another beer or more popcorn! What? The same goes with the contact calling functionality. Just not there. The current recommendation out there is to wait on the Fire Cube until it grows up some. If you really need Alexa/Echo/Fire integration - get a Fire TV and Echo Dot and just pair them up. You lose some CEC/ARC control - but it doesn't work all that well right now anyway.

I need to know... are you just a HUGE Amazon fanboy, or does Amazon sponsor you to do these reviews? A lot of the other reviews that I’ve seen comparing the Amazon lineup with other competitors show that they consistently have among the worst experiences.

It looks great but for a fraction of the price you can get a great deal with much less expensive rokus, chromecasts, and even fire sticks. The experience varies between these devices, but they are still pretty great...

I will just get an Apple TV 4K. The only remote I use and love is the Harmony Ultimate One that controls 15 devices. Great Video by the way.

One of the first adds to my FireTV remotes was the SideClick which gives me all of the volume control I need. Plus it allows for channel changing with my over-the-air channels. Very versatile - set it up to control the on/off on my receiver and even my air purifier in my bedroom. Keep up the great work!!

If they could only use a faster processor and more RAM it would be worth the money

The ethernet adapter is not very fast it limits your speed which is not acceptable

If they made the Fire TV box with better specs with Amazon Echo in it then yes it would be worth it I bought one I'm a little disappointed that it's not better the specs and no better than the last year's model

Are you sure that USB bus is faster than it's WiFi?

Its funny cause I was already doing this with my gen 1 dot and Fire TV dongle.

appreciate the videos, quick comment on the amazon remotes - Amazon offers a separate "sideclick" that attaches to your amazon remote that you can program the same way you would a universal remote. I have one for each of my 4 amazon streaming devices (4k box, stick, etc), having one remote for each device is key for me.
