At my workbench! Mobile cell phone lithium batteries for solar power, recycling project (Part 2)

Part 2. Just a bit of chill footage from my workshop. I am recycling old mobile cell phone batteries into small blocks of lithium ion storage for solar power. These battery blocks are useful for solar lighting, small inverters, USB charging, etc.

All the batteries were donated by a friend. I will include some advice for recycling old lithium cells and show the hands on work.

[Safety Note: I don't recommend soldering to Li-ion encased cells, and these batteries are kept in an outbuilding, not my house]

Lithium battery pack assembly is tedious in reality, yet I tried to exclude most of the tedious footage. In this video I show initial processing, charging, bus bars, fusing / interconnects, high temp tape, soldering and so forth.

I generally don't use a BMS (battery management system) and didn't need one here. I hand build and hand balance my packs and use a battery monitoring system on them. Maybe I can cover that topic in the future.
