I guess I’ll be the odd man out here. Even though the instrumentalist were strong and voices beautiful, the performance was way off as far as performance practices go. Tempo way way too fast. All the weaving and sway of the lines were lost. Percussion would not have been there especially the tambourine. There wouldn’t have been any vibrato at all in the singers. It , for me, ruined the coloratura. Correct performance practice is very important to me especially when it’s this far off. I performed this many years ago. The orchestration was authentic. Four lutes, four viola de gambas, two viels and a virginal.

So beautiful! Beautiful voices, the precussion adds a lot. I even looked for the lyrics (and translation) which is beautiful by itself. It's a pity, though, that we can't see the pianist. He only appears at the end.

Always a wonderful piece of music. Both of its time and ahead of its time. May it be performed and enjoyed for as long as humans perform and enjoy truly good music.
