The Sony 16mm F1.8 G is Compact & Powerful – But Should You Buy It?

Cool! Love that it's full frame. I recently picked up the Sony 11mm 1.8 for vlogging. While it's only an APS-C lens, using it on my A7iv, it was considerably less expensive. It really works well, super tiny, super light weight (181g) and most importantly, super sharp.

I have the 20 f1.8 and 16-25f2.5. My only problem with 16-25 is the f2.5. Now this 16 has the f1.8 which is what i am really going after on my vlogs. Will sell both 20 and 16-25.

Aw man. This is what I want for my talking head b a roll!! The first time I regret leaving sony for Nikon. Nothing else like this on other system.

Will be interesting to see what it is like for sports photography I shoot a lot of Skateboard style Mountain bike photography this could be a new addition to my kit.

Do you think this len or a 14mm g master is better for astro? I’m looking for a wide angle lens for my Sony a1 ii (on order), I’m really thinking between a 14 1.8 gm, 12-24 2.8 gm or 16-35 f2.8 and now this! Ahaha can u tell me which one is better all round? Astro + and some interesting shots and video, perhaps even some pov/vlog shots (may need to buy both zoom and prime wide BUT I’m not sure of the benefits of the primes and if it’s worth it (many people say gm s zooms can replace the primes and sometimes be even better) I’ve never compared them and can’t really find anywhere to rent them)

Love to see it! This is the kind of lens I was hoping Sony would focus on this year. I love smaller lenses now essentially since the A7C R has become my everyday carry.

Wish it was the size/weight of the 24/40/50 G lenses. It's really close to the 20 1.8 so it's a pass for me.

I’m getting one for indoor gimbal use. I have the 16-35 f/4 but indoors it is about 1.5 stops too slow to shoot 800iso on the FX3, and 12800 iso is overexposed.

Great review. My personal take, I prefer the 20mm focal length for vlogging. I think that’s the sweet spot but I think this 16mm will make a great travel lens.
