Overall I liked the show, but didn't love it. The casting and characters are so, so unlikable that it took too much away. I hope the characters are better in season 2

I read the books last year…. I LOVED THE NETFLIX SERIES EQUALLY!!!! Netflix did beautifully imo… I watched the Chinese version of the show on Tencent, but found it to be soooooo drawl out (30 hour long episodes) and not as deep in characters as the Netflix show….

The Battle of Darkness, The Droplet, the WallBreakers, and the revelation of the Dark Forest… I really hope they renew the show. It’s such a treat for 3 Body Problem fans to get a loyal adaptation from Tencent as well as a well executed reimagining from Netflix.

I thought it was silly that they picked a Chinese general when China has not waged any wars in so long like did he do good in school or something. I am happy with the adaptation because the books do sound a bit too convoluted and boring

I stopped watching the Netflix version after episode 5, after which I heard about the Chinese version. My god. The Chinese version obviously conveys the scientific ideas and metaphors better (in many cases, the Netflix version just skips them). I thought the nanowire scene was going to be worse due to censorship, but no, it was much more detailed and just as brutal (minus the children being killed, which I'm starting to think was just a cheap use of shock on the part of netflix, after all, those people are Adventists, why would they even HAVE children??). After watching the "locust" speech at the end of ep 30, I decided to compare the two versions- and it was laughable how weak the netflix one was).
Also as a sidenote, it is Hilarious how Tencent is reusing soundtracks from other shows (Westworld and fucking SAW just off the top of my head), but to be frank, I don't even care, the tracks are fire wherever they are used.
People tend to point out the fact that the Tencent one "doesnt show the brutality of the chinese revolution". I get that. But all the Netflix one does is show FIVE minutes of it in the opening scene... Wow, so brave of them, that's so groundbreaking (/s). They also like to say it's more "diverse".... the Chinese one was PLENTY diverse. The netflix one borders on Whitewashing, and I never thought I'd use that word in my life but there it is clear as day.

@MOSMASTERING
@MOSMASTERING - 10.08.2024 20:08

I'm blown away. I love good Sci-Fi and it's so rarely done well on screen because they often simplify it for the masses. But in this case, they've done a great job of keeping it accessible.

The unfolding of a proton and then building a supercomputer on its surface and returning it to its original size (the Cgi was awesome too) is one of the coolest concepts I've ever seen.

I'm obsessed and annoyed I hadn't heard of the books originally (although, they were Chinese originally to be fair)

I can't wait for Netflix to do Season 2, therefore I'm forced to buy one of the western translations of the books and power my way through them.

I spent some time on the Three Body Problem subreddit, and people all share the love of 3bp.
Everyone agrees that the complexity ramps up book by book, until the 3rd is apparently completely mind-melting page after page.

I can't wait!

After 3 months of this video being posted. Still less than <100 comments on it ?
Does nobody else appreciate it or watch the show? I thought it was a global 'most viewed' series for a while? Also it's received 6 Emmy nominations too. (not sure about any wins so far).

In the 3rd book it's clearly stated that we humans could not imagine a 4 dimensional space, and it's true. For our 3d brain it's impossible to imagine that from 4 dimensional space you could see a 3 dimensional object from all sides at once and also you could see all composing parts inside of it and those parts would also bee seen from all sides at once and so on. This part of the books seems unadaptable in a visual media. It can only be described with 2d and 3d analogies, and mathematically. I have no idea, how they are going to show it on the screen.

Like sophons can't see inside humans mind. It's also very difficult to present a process of thinking and feeling in a visual media. And in the 2nd books there is lot of those things described, which is happening inside human mind. For example Luo Ji imagining of his perfect woman, all his inner monologues and his revelation when he fell through the ice.
