All I can say is wow!
ОтветитьWith regard to whether being a geek and making a profession of a hobby interferes with that status, I would say firstly do you consider yourself still a geek. As a secondary point, within the past year or so I've visited both the Ticonderoga full scale set replica and the Saratoga Springs X-Files prop museum. Both of those were established by self-described geeks.
Where your hobby-turned-profession might graduate out of geek status is if your work becomes used on screen or you establish a Memory Alpha entry. That's where I'd imagine the line gets blurry.
It seems to me that phaser control might require some kind of sighting device, similar to the one Sulu was always peering into on the bridge. Just a thought, take it or leave it. I am most assuredly not looking for an argument. I consider myself a minor league trek geek, not ready for the big time. You Sir, are a Geek God!
ОтветитьI think foton torpedoes are energy pulses. That's what the word foton means ... "Torpedoes" is just a simple way to describe the weapon itself. So, I think should exist some kind of machinery or engine to generate that amount of energy, i.m.o.
ОтветитьAs usual, as always, fascinating to watch and hear your thought processes, truly amazing, now, to jump down the rabbit hole...I believe in the original series, Balance Of Terror episode, those pulses of energy were called "phasers", but no real space battles had yet been depicted, so no one really had a grasp on how they should be depicted, of course, later on we got the twin beams we are so familiar with and the photon torpedoes were simply the footage already in the can reused, moving on to The Motion Picture, they made the decision to show the torpedoes as physical projectiles, in use they were simple spheres of light, I've personally always found these to be a let down (personal opinion only), the original depiction was powerful, and lightning quick, illustrating immense power unleashed, the movie, TNG and following all seem to have neutered a powerful weapon, they've become small spots of light, moving at a liesurely pace and (often) exploding in a harmless ball of fire, unspectacular and disappointing ( they DID get better...somewhat), so, I very much like your thinking on this, it WILL be a source of controversy, so what, let the nerd battle begin
ОтветитьThe original Enterprise, with Kirk, Spock, Bones et all had energy weapons, Pickards Enterprise had photon torpedoes!
ОтветитьYou are not just a geek. You are a successful geek. That is the best way to be.
ОтветитьI could maybe attempt the Defiant at this scale but not a starship...
ОтветитьFANTASTIC WORK ! YOU ARE DOING AN AMAZING JOB !!!!!!!
Ответитьgood luck on your build I will check in as you do it!
ОтветитьNo doubt you've been ask this already but, Where do you plan to display this beast of a construction????? Hopefully you have a warehouse at your disposal???
ОтветитьFully agree on the lighting comments. Current Trek is one giant eye sore of excessive glare and contrast, and lets not even mention the lens flare. There is a time and place for extreme lighting applications, but it can't be in every shot and sequence.
ОтветитьDude, I work in the filming business here in the United States. Why don’t you try to get on with Pinewood Studios working in the art department. You would be an asset for building sets. Keep following your dream. And BTW, you are not a geek, you have a talent and a passion to follow a dream.
ОтветитьI'm up there in age as well (I'm 61) ,but I'm not a TOS. I'm a Next Generation guy through and through.😄
ОтветитьMr Trek. You are clearly a master technician, designer, and ship builder. You will know the Constitution class starships better than anyone else (if you do not already). Not only have you studied the original, you have also developed and overseen the refit. Elsewhere in these comments you have been called a captain. It is my humble opinion that Star Fleet Command should promote you to Admiral after the completion of this build.
ОтветитьI think Spock would absolutely raise an eyebrow while watching this vid. Wonderfully bonkers project, beautifully executed!
ОтветитьI'm only now finding your channel and this is awesome.😮
ОтветитьFuck yeah, dude!🤘
ОтветитьAt this point I would say "Trek Scholar" .
ОтветитьI'm with you, Mr.Trek - The Photon Torpedos are pulses of energy, like the name suggests. It was Nicholas Meyer and Harve Bennett that decided they wanted it to "feel" more like a submarine battle in space, so they made that change (if you can call it that). It's all looking so marvelous! Can never wait for the next installment from you. And Happy New Year, Mr. Trek!
ОтветитьThis channel brings me so much joy! Bringing the Enterprise to life has always been a fascination to me. Thank you so much!
ОтветитьI'm from Sheffield, I've heard of 'Sci-Fi Bookshop' but not 'Dungeons and Starships' unless they've changed their name that is, its been years since I was in the shop.
ОтветитьI'm glad you aren't following them too close, not all connies were exactly the same, the Enterprise wasn't always the same
ОтветитьWill it just lay on its side out on your front lawn
Lol
I was about to correct you by saying that you weren’t a geek but a nerd. Then you said you weren’t going to build the core or water system or the torpedo magazine. That’s when it occurred to me. Yes, you are a geek, not a nerd because a nerd would be building this to help work out those systems. As far as whether you’re still a geek if this is your full time job? I’d say yes. You just have a job you enjoy.
ОтветитьPROUD TO BE A PATRON I encourage everyone to sign up and support this incredible journey. LLAP
Ответить"Down to sheffield" .....i think we are technically "up and to right" from you mate 😂
ОтветитьThe real question is where are you going to buy the dilithium?
ОтветитьIt makes me smirk a little to think that people argue over something that's almost entirely subjective and imaginary. Yes, there's canon, but there's so many gaps that there's no real right or wrong in regard to so many things that can only be interpreted via your own imaginative perspective on what is an artform.
ОтветитьPlease support this project as a patron.
ОтветитьYou turned your passion into a full time gig. AND still able to keep the lights on. SMART Geek!🤣🤣🤣✌️🤘🇨🇦
Ответитьyears from now film makers and tv exects will use your plans to create the ship to save time making it up.
Ответитьkeep the content running!!! I really want to see you finish it!
ОтветитьThat’s great work there bro!!! 😮😮😮😮😮keep it up…..
ОтветитьWhat stood out to me was the bathroom. I’m glad to see it for some odd reason!
ОтветитьI love that you're leaving a bit of room for the viewer's imagination. Maybe I'm just to literal minded but my instinct would have been to spell every little thing out explicitly. Your way is better.
ОтветитьLove it! Fun - Fantasy and Imagination - I love it! Very cool 😎 👍 enjoy and be happy 👍🙂 … I hope I can see it some day … don’t worry about arguments or cannon or non-cannon - do it your way 👍 the original ship did not have a warp core … that didn’t stop writers and artists in Gene Roddenberry saying/imagining it as a different kinda warp core … kinda like the Enterprise NX-01!!! Also!!! Photon Torpedoes as both energy pulse and physical - brilliant! Love it - why not! That’s better in my view 😊❤ so please 🙏keep at it! When I saw a video you did going down a corridor … I so felt like a kid that I was there - it was so surreal 😊 thanks … back to the days I was a kid drawing the blueprints myself with every puzzle 🧩 piece I could get - keep going and keep having fun - God Bless, take care 🙏👍👋
ОтветитьThe original concept for the torpedoes was energy based, matter and antimatter conta8ned in a field fired from the ship, fantastic concept, but limiting for the stories it can tell. Particularly before the 21st century CGI era, the use of physical props is what allowed them to do stories involving torps that werent just dialog and exterior FX shots. It also allowed the use of the torpedo systems for probes of similar design.
Imo, id be perfectly happy if the Enterprise during the TOS era used energy based torpedoes as the new potentially more advanced technology, with physical torps and their probe counterparts on standby. Then by the redit the idea is abandoned due to various technical or doctrinal issues.
One such issue perhaps being that energy torps are by their nature more violent weapons, something the increasingly war adverse starfleet doesn't like. Physical torps can be dialed in to the perfec yield, even on the fly, they can be controlled and even disarmed if necessary. Similar to why they use phasers instead of disruptors, phasers are tools rhat can be used as weapons, disruptors are weapons very much meant to maim and kill. So they naturally prefer the weapons system that offers more utility and hypothetically can be used more.... humanely.
You see the warp core in main engineering or where the impulse engine is. You see them put Dilithium crystals in.
They didn't have the budget to show the core.
Hey man, I've just seen a piece I believe would fit perfectly somewhere in GNDN place... It's a water admission valve of a wash dish machine, amazingly futuristic design, with tubes in and out, and metal plates around two cylinders. Check that out later if you have some time! 👍🏾
ОтветитьYou are amazing! Now let's talk about getting you a clip on microphone to improve your audio quality. It'll make a huge difference.
ОтветитьAmazing work.
ОтветитьAmazing! Thank you for sharing this with us.
ОтветитьOf course ur a geek but ur a hobbiest a artist and I would love to get to do what u do....I'm a leather artist and hobbiest but my job is working with leather so when u get to do what u like it's not actually a job....I also build models but for D and D and I enjoy making that stuff as a hobbiest I've learned alot on my own and think my mini scene are pretty good....keep up the good work at warp speed my friend
Ответитьlooks good. How are you going to see all the interiors once it is completed? does it split open or something?
ОтветитьGreat work, I really enjoyed watching what you have created.
ОтветитьFrom science fiction models to full functionality machine. I've watched this for 60 years. Carry on, sir.
ОтветитьWow, it’s awesome to watch some lose their dam mind.
ОтветитьNot a geek, artist geek🤔geek artist 🤷♂
