How is your day going?
ОтветитьHere I am in 2024, after doing extensive research about going to Film School. I have a passion for directing and love bringing out the best in people through their craft. I’m hopeful that I’ll find my path into the film industry and, one day, achieve the ultimate dream of winning an Oscar.
Ответитьi want to study film production in England, but i have NO idea which universities are the best for it 🥲🥲
ОтветитьI'm a sophomore right now with a Film and Photography major. I have no real experience in either and decided to do a double major just to have extra options under my belt. I wouldn't say I'm a film bro or anything like that I'm not up at night rewatching the godfather constantly -I really only watch movies that I find enjoyable. I got a communications/Advertising minor but I still feel like that isn't enough. I'm making great connections and meeting great people, but I am constantly worrying that I am just flushing money down the drain. I'm trying to familiarize myself with as many courses as possible that could maybe help in the future, join clubs, and create in my free time. But honestly, even if I do make it in the industry, I doubt I'd be paid much. There isn't a real reason why I wrote this all out I just needed to get it off my chest :) But to all those reading I belive in you!!
ОтветитьWoke up n said fuck it
ОтветитьWould love to go to film school but unfortunately I don’t have the money to do so.
ОтветитьAre 1 or 1 and a half year film schools worth it?
ОтветитьI watched this four years ago and now I am in a successful film school career thank you karsten
ОтветитьAs someone with a film school degree and a computer information systems degree I would say no don’t go. Only do it if your life will feel completely unfulfilled if you don’t work in the film industry. Though you need to accept that you may never actually break in. If you do you may be doing odd jobs like holding boom mics or setting up lighting rigs for a living. Also, if you are going to go you need to go to one in LA or NYC. Anywhere else probably won’t have a strong internship presence for you to participate in. I personally went to ASU and would so do not go there. PS: my quality of life is much better working in IT than I think it would have been in film.
ОтветитьShould I pursue filmmaking even without experiences? 😢
ОтветитьI really like this video because I've been a Screenwriter since 2016 and became a professional filmmaker in 2021 and I've been rejected from colleges for Film Class and Media classes so to answer this question I don't need film school cause what's the point within film school when you can just mostly learn it in your spare time or friends who makes movies themselves
ОтветитьCan you please talk about legit film scholarships? Some of us really want to go but we can't afford it
ОтветитьHello!! I love your video:) I am just curious about how you get together the 'crew'for filming films for university assignments ! Do they also get plus points or is it like team assignment for people in the same class or is it just voluntarily helping each other out? I am curious about what give students the motivation to help each other as crew in their movies in university. thank you :)
Ответитьdo not go to film school. get a stem degree or learn a trade or get a diploma. work on film when you have time by working on your projects, writing, help out on student films or get internships at production houses. explore creatively and you can have a marketable skill at the end of your student life
ОтветитьI think I want to go to film school but I’m not sure if that’s what I want to do, and I don’t know how to get any experience beforehand to make sure that it won’t be something I hate
ОтветитьKeep the money or get a degree in finance
ОтветитьAs someone who went to film
School for screenwriting, it helped that I got to network and get more hands-on experience with my craft. Networking can definitely be your best friend in this business.
Bro what are you saying, should we go or not 🥲
ОтветитьThe main thing he stated was the connections you make. I got that from another video as well.
In the film industry you must have connections, you must know people, to get in the door.
Sure, you could buy your own equipment, or rent it, shoot a small movie, but who would distribute it?
If I go, it'll be for the relationships I gain, getting to know industry people, ect.
But there are other film school options other than the 4 year degree one...and much cheaper.
Spielberg did not go to USC, he was rejected. He went to California State College (now university) in Long Beach.
ОтветитьWhat if i want to study screen writing and film making
I fucking love both 😅
They say passion and love for your craft is enough to get you to make it but to be honest born and raised in a third world country where studying film is not even a thing makes you want to question everything lol but really I just love editing and films so much I literally have been editing half of my life and all I want is the opportunity to edit films. I taught myself everything I know so far but this, this I can’t seem to figure out how to make it possible.
Ответитьwhat a waste of time lol
ОтветитьI first spent 20 years working in Hollywood, and then the last 16 years as a professor at THE film school in the northeast. Best way to put this all into context: not a single lawyer will tell you they learned anything in law school that made them a good lawyer (except how to read contracts). Law school and film school help you network, teach you time management, challenge you to decide if this is what you want to do, and give you an avenue to meet people who are alumni of your film school. For every Tarantino who worked in a video store and stole (I mean -- learned) the movies, there are scores who worked in a video store and are still working in retail. You be you. And who knows -- maybe you'll wind up in one of my screenwriting classes ...
Ответитьwow
ОтветитьDont
ОтветитьAbsolutely but mainly to get your foot in the door and to create contacts, the knowledge itself is irelevant as it is a subjective industry
Ответитьthis was the most helpful video ive seen on the subject, thank you 🥲
ОтветитьThis video helped me decide to go to art school. Two more years and I’m so broke!!!!
ОтветитьSo film school in Europe is a lot cheaper. But I found it still worth it.
I knew pretty much how all gear worked and the proper way of handling it before ever stepping on a first gig and if I wanted to do that without film school, the rent of the gear would have been much greater than even the most expensive US schools.
And the contacts I made during film school got me a lot of gigs even nearly a decade later.
But you really have to work it tho. You can't be the stereotypical film school kid who just watches 'deep' cult movies and talk shit about everything will help you out in the long run.
You'll even find teachers there who will do shit like that. But that's why they are teaching usually the least important bits.
Bruh Spielberg went Cal State Long Beach
ОтветитьIf you enjoy school and if school really helps you learn, then (I think) you should go for it. You'd probably get more opportunities to be apart of actual projects as a university student or someone with a degree. If you are an average person with no contacts and no creative qualifications, it'll probably be very difficult to take part in an actual project. Personally, I very much enjoy taking notes, learning proper terminology and a bit of history in an organised manner + and doing school projects. Although I'm a couple of years from the option, I am very sure that if my interest in film withstands I'll still want to go to film school. Don't let the fear of failing stop you, discipline yourself and try harder.
ОтветитьI’m more into music video directing, what college should I go to? a film college ?
ОтветитьWell, with all that said, i'm about to go to major economics.
ОтветитьNone of this really matters if you can’t afford it
ОтветитьThis is all great stuff. I agree it’s more about whom you meet and not exactly the skills learned.
However, Spielberg went to Cal State Long Beach. It was George Lucas who attended USC I think.
By that Economics major call out was so unnecessary 😭
ОтветитьI don’t know why but the meeting new people part got me not wanting to go to film school. Maybe there’s something wrong with me
ОтветитьI scrolled pretty far and didn't see this comment
Spielberg didn't go to USC.
omg what do i want to do
ОтветитьIf yo dad got that juice than sure
ОтветитьMe feeling personally attacked by that Nolan fan thing
ОтветитьHow big is the role of money when going to film school ?
ОтветитьI go to a small college and have an individualized major for Film.
ОтветитьI went to the art institute of Philadelphia which closed down for good around 2018 but anyways I loved it so much I never doubted it so when I looked into fusail and the LA film school those are my dream schools lol
Ответитьmy personal beef with film school is what they teach their students...
i can tell someone went to film school based on their perspectives on film and cinema... lol, yeah you're forced to swallow the "classics" and you must love citizen kane... god forbid students have their own opinions
at the end, everyone thinks the same and isn't creative
Honestly accurate answer, it really depends, if I had rich parents I wouldn’t go, Id just as for a few thousands dollars to start up my own production
Ответить
