Some months ago I ran into the word "þēoden" in a bilingual edition of Beowulf. "þ" is the old English character that we have since replaced with "th". In the context of this bilingual edition of Beowulf, "þēoden" was translated as "prince".

When a king or queen of England signs their name to a bill, it's followed by Rex or Regina, Latin for King or Queen.
