Are Brits leaving Spain since Brexit? Torrevieja 90 180 day visas and more

Village where I stay has seen brits exit in droves, and depopulate as for the Spanish too, the village is full of mainly elderly people.
But lets think numbers, roughly 700 in town, and 500 more in campo, mainly Spanish, 2016, 6 bars couple restaurants, bank, couple stores and I left that village as kids were needing to go to high school and so on, typically would see around 8/9 other brit families, and probably dozen or so individuals, there were some Dutch and Germans too.

Ok so I returned to same village in July, kids now grown up, fully Adult, and employed,..
So population in town now about 500, and 300 more in campo, 2 bars, and small store nearest bank etc, now 9km. See the occasional brit tourist, don't see brit families, know a couple of couples, and not many individuals, and its ok like that - couple of Germans and couple of Dutch, so this place has dipped,

I see a lot of empty property, and the electricity is unstable being in the sierra, but still I love it.

I highly recommend you check your heritage, see if you have Irish grand parents/ parents. You can apply for Irish citizenship with the foreign births register. You'll need loads of paperwork and time. But it's a Brexit uno reverse card once you have a passport.

Spanish in Great Britain is immigrant, british in Spain is expat….ooook😏

It always makes me laugh when i hear or read the phrase XPats . These same people who call people going to the UK they call them immigrants . I hope the Spanish people and other EU nations remember that Scotland and Northern Ireland didn't vote for Brexit and hate being dragged out of the EU by England .

Well since Brexit people coming to live in Spain have to prove they can provide for themselves and family so they are not a burden on the Spanish, also it costs a lot to do it . Before then anyone could come so surely it's better for Spain this way, also there's millions of other nationalities moving here and they're not moaned about nearly as much.

A fair proportion of the drop in the number of uk expats could be down to the fact they are no longer living at all, many of the expats are elderly, so they maybe didn’t leave Spain, they just “left”😢

Since Brexit I simply became Spanish. Just returned from holiday in France where I only needed my Spanish DNI card for travel. Sorted. Goodbye UK.

Here in Coimbra they have evaporated. In 2022 there were still a few, now all English you hear is American, Aussie. I was in the Azores last month and in Punta Delgado there were a few.

Britland is clearly in rapid Meltdown. It is now just a Little Insignifigant island located off the coast of mighty Europe.

Agree with everything you say. Love where we live off grid and there are actually quite a few Northern European people arriving including some British immigrants. Those that left were those not legally registered.

The british will always have a love affair with Spain. It is the go to destination for sun worshippers. Brexit has made it much harder but PSpain still remains a much loved country by most brits. Brits leaving Spain maybe for many reasons. Health problems. Family. Financial woes. Home sickness.
