Great video! Columbus landed in the islands around Puerto Rico, not North America. He mistakenely thought he'd reached Indus (e.g. India) and mis-named the native Carribe people Indians. Thank you for that juicy tidbit about Queen Isabella's view of chattel slavery! - kaf

I have wondered if Catherine of Aragon died of the same condition as her mother, Isabella of Castile? And her daughter, Mary Tudor?

Few tiny corrections: the alhambra decree that expelled the jews came after they conquered Granada, as the name of the decree suggests. Isabella was very passionate about getting the jews out, it wasn't her husband. And last it was the pope that divided the new world between Portugal and Spain.
Funny enough: I'm watching this on March 31st 2024, the 532nd anniversay of the decree of alhambra.

It’s like a game of chess . The Queen is meant to be protected. Of course it means immense physical stress on the body to give birth to 10 children. The Woman is exhausted. Yes it is so important that the blood matches and that the children get fed by the breast. Everything else will lead to ill blood, hatred and madness.

She was a child, and I hope you realize incapable of being a leader of Spain! The Spanish Inquisition was about child abuse, and using this throne as did they can only pour gas on a lit fire! We do not condone child abuse and inappropriate appointees to leadership! Spain is not our best decision in history? Right UN! The rain in Spain DI not fall mainly on the plain? Get the freak….

Thanks for the video and all the research behind it! More (much more) effort in learning the pronunciations of personal names and place names would be very greatly appreciated. One example is actually baffling: mispronouncing the English word "Castile".

It's nice to hear that many of the jews living in Spain came from other european countries that expelled them before Spain did, but calling the Spanish Inquisition "bloody" may not be correct (by the time's standars and the inquisitions in other countries) as only 3,5% of the accused were sentenced to death and only 1,8% of that 3,5% were actually executed, there are also reports of people blaspheming to be judged by the the Inquisition instead of by the civil judges. Also, in the matter of America, it wasn't just Fernando who took part on the treaty of Tordesillas, but Isabel aswell, and it's unfair to summarise her endeavour and Sapin's of America y just "millions died and were enslaved: Isabel managed to push for laws to prevent and forbid the enslavement and mistreatment of the natives as they were seen as equals in the eyes of God and the Crown and also reinforced such view in her testament and Fernando himself promotioned interracial marriages for both men and women (something that was still and issue for english America up til the 60s). Their laws at the time weren't perfect, but their aim was to integrate not just the land or get free labour, but, to integrate its people into the Crown and the Faith, which for the time was as having them as equals and the Spanish monarchs kept on trying to improve the situation there.

Although her and Ferdinand were co-monarchs, I feel like Isabella was the one with more power, influence, and authority. Most likely because her kingdom of Castile was much larger than Ferdinand’s kingdom of Aragon. Kinda funny how even in ultra-patriarchal late medieval/early modern Europe, there were still many powerful queens who ruled in their own right with much more personal power than any US president, and yet even now in the 21st century, the US still hasn’t had a female president. A position that holds a lot less power than a reigning monarch during late medieval/early modern Europe.

The inquisition was started to protect those who where being accused, the inquisition didn't start out so blood thirsty until later in their history.
One other thing you do a good job with your history lesson for us.

Amazing that Isabel and Ferdinand were both sound of mind with how inbred their shared royal house was before their daughter Juana married Philip the Handsome. TV Tropes calls it a minor miracle that the Catholic Monarchs were sound of mind by all accounts.
