“They’re built like Telescopes” Rare Antique Silver Candlesticks

Telescopic candlesticks were designed so you could alter the height of the stick to suit your purpose. To spread light in front of a mirror, you might have them extended. For reading next to a chair, you might have them reduced to their smallest size. Very versatile, very desirable now, as they were when they were made.

This pair date to 1805, the time of the Battle of Trafalgar. They’re hallmarked for Sheffield and are decorated with the Greek Key design, which was fashionable at the time
