Is this still a problem? Or has it been patched?
ОтветитьYou have literally described my exact experience with the game! I had no idea that auto-resolve multiplied your army’s strength that much more. I thought I was just THAT bad at the game.
ОтветитьBro I play on normal and this is still a problem
ОтветитьGreat video legend
ОтветитьAutoresolve is for femboys
ОтветитьLegend of emotional support
ОтветитьSo normal is easy hard is hard but easy is Stockholm syndrome
ОтветитьThis video deserves a Nobel prize
ОтветитьDoes this dificulty config works for warhammer 2?
ОтветитьVeteran here but always learn new stuff from your vids either way. Commenting for the algo!
Ответитьits less about my self esteem and more about the 3 whole minutes to load every battle
ОтветитьThis is just the advice I need. Liked and subscribed.
ОтветитьPersonally I find melee only factions to be boringly easy to fight against in campaign, I struggle a lot when it comes to missile heavy factions like the wood elves though.
ОтветитьYa know Legend, I haven't always seen eye-to-eye with you on your opinions re: TW and CA in the past, but I do appreciate how much you seemingly care for this franchise and its community. It was a pleasant surprise to hear you take time out of your schedule to make this video and help others out with their TW woes.
ОтветитьI find the easiest way to boost my self esteem while playing is to use a mod that puts all my enemies in wheelchairs & crutches and equips all my troops with FO4 Fatmans.
Very therapeutic.
Edit I made up the mod. but it'd be funny it it existed.
What an awesome video, legend. You recognized, demonstrated; explained the issue; and then showed a fitting solution; all while giving some pep talk to the new players thinking theyre just bad.
Good shit; now please play M2TW again 😉😁
You are talking about some mod or is this applicable to Rome total war 2 too? I guess it is. :-))
ОтветитьJust did a dm snicktch multiplayer with kholek. I cheese my way getting a tier 5 settlement kholek went to war over astrogath buff. Then was like I don't need to kill tamurkhan. Looses df to tarmukhan. Disaster campaign. Fled south of astrogath beat up a small faction of orcs. Vassalized them kinda doomstacked gobbos and died to dwarves but he had a huge comeback got a df north of astro and pelted his way through tarmakhan. With ungrim beating up his orc and chorf vassals. Kholek was level 30 I was 18 at the time until I ambushed Zhao and gelts army cause they threw them away like a bag of candy lol
ОтветитьI started manually fighting every single battle. It can take a long time, but it made me enjoy the game again.
ОтветитьIs this same issue present in Total War: Warhammer 2? Or is it a result of something they changed in 3 (the issue in general, not the specifics of which slider affects what)?
ОтветитьHey that's a pretty good break down! I only started this game recently, and I don't have much history with rst games. At first playing alone I was totally lost, but after grouping up with some friends and sharing some manual battles together (and buying every Skaven dlc) I started really enjoying the game.
Right now what I'm hitting is actually a barrier from the group more than myself... Not that I'm great at the game, but we play together and someone inevitably gets hit with a tough army. The auto resolve predicts a high casualty victory, or even a close defeat and we think "Lets go in and fight it out." We've done this before on some fights and we've come out ahead, but none of us are really that great at RTS. We chatted some about the difficulty settings and even some AR mods but we haven't found anything satisfying yet. I think your recommendations for difficulty settings might be the right way for us to go! Thanks.
Truth be told, As a TW player since Rome 2 who has beat every historic campaign since on atleast normal and most Warhammer campaigns. If you can hold your own in Warhammer, especially Immortal Empires, you will destroy the historic titles. The level of micro management required is unheard of. If your playing with a caster you have to do everything you would normally do in a historic battle on top of flipping back to your caster and rotating spells like your playing fucking WoW. If you are a magic heavy race like Kislev or High elves you may have 2 or even 3 casters to do this with. The amount of combined arms is ridiculous. You can have gunpowder, ground cavalry, flying cav, bow infantry, pikes/halberds, sword and shielf, mortars/cannons, spellcasters, and frontline sword and shield in the same army. I love the game and the amount of effort they put into making such a thing happen but its ALOT to manage in battle and if you can do it well, I don't think theres a TBS or RTS game you can't handle.
ОтветитьThank you for this video. I played through an entire campaign without playing a battle because I thought I was terrible. I am a beginner but I was getting absolutely butt****ed by the AI when it said easy victory and I just gave up, so I did the Karl Franz campaign only playing battles when I had to for quest items. I'm going to give it a go properly now because big battle were something that actually made me want to play the game due to my love of the tabletop.
ОтветитьThanks for this legend. Very helpful.
ОтветитьI really don't understand how people can play this game and just autoresolve it all. Manual battles is literally the main selling point of this game. The campaign mechanics are so mediocre at best, I swear if you think that's what makes this game you have never played any other strategy game before, the campaign is really bad, it's the manual battles that make it so good.
ОтветитьBeen a 4X Player for half of my life.
I hoped the game where like Warhammer Fantasy Battles, wich i loved for Years.
I only play Quest battles and get rufflestomped in most of em, if i try them the Moment they pop up.
After roughly 1900 hours TW2 and 777 hours TW3 playing 95% on E/E ...
I appreciate this .. been dealing with this forever.. so many lost campaigns .. however I didn't get the memo earlier .. I have.. (checks steam) 384.2 hour play time.. been doing this auto resolve and sucking at manual fighting.. appreciate the video
Ответитьnow i feel pretty good
cause i actually managed to win a valiant defeat battle even though it was set on easy
This video would have been so useful when i first started, I'm really happy to hear the words "the game is fucking lying to you". I felt so fucking bad to lose what auto-resolve said was a decisive victory. I only became good at the game when i started doing play along with your campaigns copying everything you did
ОтветитьThanks for this vid! As an aside, there is a mod called "More Difficult Autoresolver Mod" which makes your campaign difficulty setting play a role in the auto resolve outcomes if you'd rather not boost the battle AI's performance for whatever reason
Ответитьthis explains soooo much. many of my frustrations have been explained and some advice given on how to improve. i´ve been in the situation where i got worse results than the auto resolve told me. granted it was not warhammer3 but i guess this applies to other total war games as well
ОтветитьDoes that go for earlier games as well
Ответитьthe paradox game part is so real that's literally what happens, ill try hard battles now thanks man
ОтветитьWith cheese I've killed way over my army cost. Specially true in siege.
I remember one that I defeated 2 dooms stacks + garrison with one army (decent) that I got from confed.
Thing is, IIRC I had to use magic cheese and I got way more kills from the chariots that I should have otherwise in the open battlefield, because the AI just split his forces and let me run through them.
I don't like cheesing but, gonna give a little of context. Was doing a ritual / conquest run on Vortex.
I was in the lead in the ritual, but I didn't started the last ritual as soon as possible, because it was legendary, I was conquering while doing rituals, and I felt like I would need more time to raise additional armies to protect my lands from the enemy spawn (otherwise they might raze my cities), before attempting, meanwhile the last faction still alive whom was behind, reached the last ritual and started it, thus getting the lead. I sent 5 armies to engage and destroy his city.
Problem was that it was before sea battles could be fought on land, instead I was forced to do auto battles... Well, said autobattles wiped all my 5 stacks... (Keep in mind I was also expanding in different fronts AND was gathering 3 - 4 armies in home in order to perform the last ritual, so I had well over 10 armies each one adding 15% extra upkeep)
So, since I've lost ALL stacks, I got one last one from a confederation from a nearby minor faction ahd I did cheese.
I had a decent army, but I defeated 2 dooms stacks + garrison + wall upgrades, with a random army from confederation from a minor faction.
Yes, I did cheese, but after loosing 5 stacks from BS battles that I couldn't fight , I think it was alright.
Well my entire point is, as long that you're willing to cheese, you can defeat 2 - 3 x your army strength, specially in sieges.
So it's not about "tactics" or "skills" alone, it's more about cheesing, while also having tactics and skills.
Similarily in defenses, if you manage to put your forces outside and hold the ground, in order to get towers assistance, or even allow the AI to split his forces and let them get exausted by climbing, while you retreat into shock points aided by missiles, you'll kill way above your army strength.
This is almost like the algorithm reading my mind. I have about 150 hours in TW:WH from on-and-off playing for since launch. Always with medium/hard campaign diff, but with easy battle diff. However, I only just began noticing this on my last two campaigns.
Previously, I would just AR-steamroll through the campaign, but lately i've started insisting on fighting (almost) every battle, in order to try and learn/enjoy the different quirks of all the races. And I have lost count of the number of times i've either lost a battle, or won a pyrrhic victory, where the auto resolve would've given me a decisive victory.
And despite my 150-ish hours, I really started to wonder if I in fact was more shit than the auto-resolve. My immediate conclusion was that that was the case. I'm glad and re-invigorated to hear that it is not true.
This is probably the best video I have ever seen thank you. I have played since shogun and always done either easy or normal. I have always love the games but I believe myself to be shit but thanks to you I know I am not
ОтветитьGiga tip for any army consisting of all the types aka VC. Guard mode and skirmish mode should be set differently for your shooters/artillery. Fight every small settlement without a lord till you get your micro down.
ОтветитьHey, thanks to have done this video, I start a month ago and I understand know why I couldn't win certain battles manually with easy victory auto resolve
Ответитьevery single new player to total war warhammer should see this video as mandatory. good work, man!
ОтветитьEasy when doing multiplayer campaign, so the autoresolve clears all the slog battles. Solo campaign Legendary/VH
ОтветитьThis makes me feel way better about turning autoresolve close defeats into close victories 😊
ОтветитьI am capable of doing zero casualties on total war rome 2 sea battles and ship vs settlement.
Not one time has auto resolve done that
I play on Hard Campaign Difficulty, Very Hard Battle Difficulty and fair AI stats (I hate cheats on both sides). I never knew how much that Battle Difficulty cheated for player so I always felt great after winning Valiant Defeats or Close Defeats. I really recommend these difficulty settings if you trust yourself in campaign map and play "meh" at battles like me.
ОтветитьThank you SO MUCH for this video!
Following your advice, my latest playthrough has been going so well, unlike all my previous attempts.
I was very discouraged from the start of playing Warhammer 3 when I kept getting close victories whenever I played out battles.
I knew decisive victories exist and from my history with total war games and I felt it was something you should strive to get in this game.
But even if you won, in a way that could be considered decisive, in an evenly matched battle, where you win without taking any significant losses, the game will still award you with a "close victory"
And then high road you by saying:
"you may call this a victory, I call it fortunate"
Wtf why?
It was extremely discouraging to me when I started out with this game. especially so because I had the same issue with what legend talks about in this video. The auto resolve would show that I should be able to get a decisive victory. Yet no matter how hard i tried, i could only get a close victory.
It became infuriating to me... trying again and again to get that "decisive victory"... to only get a close victory... the game mocking me with my clear success labeling it as "fortunate"
Turns out, decisive victories are awarded to overwhelming victories! where initially the balance of power must be extremely in your favor! Because winning in an evenly matched fight, almost unscathed, is nowhere near as decisive as bringing a 20 unit death-stack to a 5 man settlement battle and winning by hardly doing anything...
It doesn't make sense... its a feature that isn't even necessary to have objectively, and wasnt even an issue in the past games!
They're supposed to reward and inform the player of their proficiency as they play through the game, yet they're so inappropriate in this sequel that they're best to be ignored completely.
As a new player, I couldn't feel proud about a close victory because of this mechanic. Especially if the auto resolve shows a decisive victory on easy mode.
The game lies to you.
This really helped thank you so much
ОтветитьI've been playing on VH battle difficulty now, whatever the campaign difficulty, since I watched this video and it has done wonders for both my campaigns and my self esteem 🙃 thanks legend!
ОтветитьSuch a great wholesome vid about how to enjoy the game when still learning.
ОтветитьI suck even on easy 😂 it's hard to learn as a new player
ОтветитьHoly shit, that's good to know.
Ответить
