If you have a 1X US platinum certification on a song and a 2x US platinum certification on the same song, that doesn’t mean that you combine them and say you sold 3 million. If the biggest one says 2 million, that means that’s the highest certification, which means you sold 2 million.

And also, different countries have different numbers for certifications. At that time platinum in germany was 500k.
