Animal Crossing New Horizons Review - The Final Verdict

Barely content compared to new leaf needs a lot of updates

One thing that annoys me is the wood, you have normal wood, soft wood and hard wood, OK so 3 wood types and you think there could be 3 different types of trees...no and that's the problem because when I've been crafting and I need normal wood, the trees just give me more hard and soft wood than just normal wood and I tend to get quite annoyed with that. There should be different types of trees for each wood material not all 3 in one. I wouldn't mind the crafting if the wood weren't that much of annoyance.

I feel like the tools breaking argument is really weak, considering your tools would break in Animal Crossing for Gamecube, too. The only ones that didn't ever break were the Gold versions, unless I'm remembering incorrectly, but I specifically remember axes and shovels breaking down when I needed them most.

This is this reviewers first animal crossing game. Hes talking about durability like he never got the gold tools in the previous animal crossing games

Might be wrong, but I don’t remember stardew valley having durability.

I mean yeah tools breaking is annoying but it's a mechanic to keep you interested. I would appreciate a durability bar though.

This game has been the most fun I've had with my 8 and 5 year olds. First night we laughed so hard my 5year old farted. Yes it's that good.

This guy left out a HUGE part of this review saying "ohhh it's a 9/10" FALSE fucking 3 out of ten for the soul fact that only ONE person can play this game. Me and my wife bought this game to play together and we can't. She started the island and now I HAVE TO live on the same island and can't do HALF the stuff she can do because I am not the "main" player on the island. You literally have to buy a whole other console AND the game for it to own and operate your own island.

BAD FORM NINTENDO

Idk if people realize it, but you can build new tools on the island with it's own resources. Just don't break essential resource harvesting tools before you harvest said resources or else you'll have to give up the nookie..

How would this concept not sound fun on paper. That makes no sense, and sounds like something you said just to make this game sound like it doesnt deserve credit for its gameplay and that it does anyway. Makes no sense. On paper this game still sounds fun.

Sth he didn't mention which I find quite annoying is that the tools take up space in your pocket. I've been playing AC since wild world and that's always something that annoyed me... it takes so much space (especially now cuz you have new tools) it always gets in the way... I wish they had done the pockets like in ACPC where they can contain 300 insects/fishes and then the resources are in a seperate compartment. However I'd not want ACNH to, like ACPC, not be able to change your tools whenever you want.
Inventory wise I really wanted them to balance ACNL and ACPC 😭😭

It becomes more grindy than previous versions because you need a lot of iron ore, and the only way to get enough is to repeatedly go to the Nook Miles reward islands, which are extremely watered down compared to the larger one in New leaf that allowed scuba diving and a basket to load up on a ton of stuff. I also don't see a lot of new bugs and fish in general, and have yet to see the kind of rare beetles found on the Island in New Leaf. I have yet to see even a shark or something that valuable. The islanders themselves don't seem to give any quests like they did in New Leaf and only rarely will give you a random gift, reducing the incentive to talk to them. The need to use iron ore on most of the large projects means I barely even want to waste it on better tools, which means dealing with the ones that constantly break. It also took a lot longer before getting some good furniture, and I had to resort to using fish tanks as counter space. Those are the main negatives I've seen so far. Maybe I need to reach new milestones or wait for a patch for more good stuff.

I was disappointed that the backpack did nothing to improve inventory space.

I'm glad that you mentioned the stupidity that is forcing the player to buy the tickets with NookMiles.

Edit: and the stupid durability system. You really hit the nail on the head with this review. It's a great game, but has some objective faults.

The first animal crossing i played was new leaf and it was so boring! This one looks so much better so I’d be willing to give the series another shot.

Im torn between zelda BOTW and this animal crossing. Ive played zelda on my brothers switch and love it. Never played animal crossing tho, so thinking of buying my own switch but dont know which game should i buy first. Can anyone give me some recommendations? (please dont say buy both, cause....im broke)

"Took durability mechanics from stardew valley"...... its had this mechanic in every previous game. Why are you making reviews of games you know nothing about? Inaccurate and unreliable review. LOL also you can also reset your tools durability by customizing it.

Tbh I don't like the game as much as I thought I would. It has way less content than New Leaf. I have Nooks Cranny, but i've not seen any furniture like a bed or a couch thats part of a set. Also there is way less to do until you complete the game and the credits roll. You can't swim anymore, there are no gyroids, no crystals besides the gold one, the villagers don't really ask for things, there are wayy less shops and buildings than there were in New Leaf, also all the tropical fruit besides coconuts aren't in the game anymore. Tbh I would have prefered all of these features to be in the game instead of the new crafting mechanic ....

This is my first animal crossing game and i've played it a couple of days now. I think it's sooooo boring. I'll stick to Stardew Valley.

I think you confused the durability meter. Stardew Valley doesn't have a durability meter, you can upgrade your tools up till the strongest one, but once you have them, they will never break, no matter how much you use them. You must be confused with the Minecraft durability meter.

ugh... I'm so tired of this... "Zen" is not bout chilling out - in zen there's no "I" to be saved, nor to "chill". Treating zen as "chilling" thing is as stupid as treating a serious religious yet occult practice as yoga as mere exercises (no wonder one yogin almost fell of the chair laughing, when he learned what western world did with it - see Gandhi goes to yoga class parody, if you're ok with potty language).
