Satellite Imagery of Karachev Arsenal Hit by Drones: Two Ammunition Warehouses Destroyed

A couple things here that could have happened to make this strike not as successful. The first is that this appears to be a much older site. This could have been where older munitions have been stored and then go from here to places like Toropets to be reconditioned and ready for use. This might mean that the stocks here could have been depleted and there wasn't much to hit. I find that unlikely as I believe their stores were already depleted and production has increased in the last year or so. The other possibility would be that Russia took lessons from Toropets and did some risk management here to make it less likely that a catastrophic detonation would happen here. They could have removed munitions from the open pits or put more space between them. They might have even put covers over them to prevent cook-offs or drones getting to them. The last is that Ukraine just missed the big targets and all they got were 2 warehouses.

They didn't say how many drones they launched.
It could be a test launch to see how accurate they can hit and how many will get through, before sending a swarm.
Maybe the site is not worth the drones!
Unlike the Russians, I'm pretty sure the Ukrainians know what to hit and when.

The warehouses are somewhat isolated from each other by bands of bushes and/or trees.

Maybe there were other operations in these two buildings or certain things like fuses stored in here that are more critical than the type ammo stored here??

I wonder if those long range drones could be fitted up with thermite as the FPV ones are.

It might also point to a lower amount of ammunition being stored there...

There were a hell of a lot of secondary explosions in that base.... looks like a lot more that two hangars, and the spread of the fire was also quite wide...

I wonder if it would be worth destroying the rail link between the ammo dump and last train station with any attack as, if it turns out to be an partially successful or un successful attack it might encourage Russia to road transport the munitions the last couple of miles resulting in munitions been left outside at the train station and dump temporarily?

The Toropets strike apparently involved about 100 drones, many or most of which got through. This looks like a much smaller attack.

Guys, honestly I think that your should say whatever happens, in an unbiased manner. I've seen news about a Patriot unit being destroyed yesterday or the day before. None of the pro-Ukraine channels said anything. Believe, I'm favorable to Ukraine in this situation, but information echo chambers are always bad.

RED image, I believe, uses several near IR bands in false color. Good for vegetation differentiation (soils & concrete appear white/grey/brown, water appears black, and foliage is red, with grasses being a lighter shade than trees). Structures and roads will appear lighter being more NIR reflective (unless shaded or wet), but burned structures will be dark (burned reflects very little IR light).

it's probably mostly been shipped-out, either to the 'frontlines' or dispersed into the nearby forests...

This could mean that the base was largely empty.

With the conflict zone so close, I would not view neighbouring facilities as 'storage facilities' as much as I would see them as 'transit facilities'. I wouldn't expect a big fireworks show from those so close. Putin's NATO paranoia and the facilities in the close rear from the NATO border, like those in Tver are a whole different story! 🤣
