I study economics and My issue is, when the church says something like, “we want higher minimum wage” I have a very hard time agreeing with the church.

I don’t think it is more just to force a firm to raise a minimum wage and hire less workers compared to lowering the wage and hiring more workers.

I have been impoverished, I am currently unemployed, and I believe minimum wage is working against me specifically.

I just stumbled on this video and I don't think that it has aged well. The oversimplification and the really hostile attitude, trying to disguise as "teaching", are very offputting. I feel that Fr. Casey shows his cards here, especially in his passive aggressive (or maybe "aggressive aggressive") ending, and it's sad.

I used to hate him and then hailed him as nearly God. He is just a man, albeit at the head of the church. He is a good Pope with bad advisors. Jesus said the gates of hell will not overcome the church and therefore he cannot then teach heresy. We will have another Pope. If you deny it, be a Protestant where you are your own Pope. I’m sure you’ll find how you like it soon enough.

Two years after posting this "popesplaining" video, and I’m curious if you still stand by the statements you made back then? 74 year old cradle catholic here who sees this pope through clear glasses, not rose colored. How many good priests has he cancelled, and now look at the crop of cardinals he’s bringing in to insure another like himself will hold the throne at the next conclave, to see through to completion the division he has started in the church. It’s demoralizing to live through a pope who mirrors the reason for the reformation…and worse!

Not a Catholic: I find it reassuring to find a Catholic from the USA who understands and accepts ambiguity. Sometimes I pick up on US Catholic utterances and see nothing but a desire for a certainty that just isn't possible; and preferably a certainty that involves a lot of condemnation. I think it's also very especially a US thing, as I find much the same pathological need for certainty in US Conservative Evangelicalism. Biblical inerrancy, the firm thwack of the magisterium: same need.
And also thank you for foregrounding the teaching of the Church (the whole Church, I think) on society. Soon after Pope Francis was elected, we started hearing his pronouncements with their emphasis on the poor. My wife and I turned to each other: "Sounds like they elected a Christian."

You suggest going all the way back to post Vatican 2 encyclicals? I suggest you go all the way back to sacred scripture to start...then read the Church Fathers, then read the doctors of the Church...then read Church documents written by Popes and the Magisterium prior to the 1700s...then read all the titled Encyclicals and other teaching documents written by all pre-Vatican 2 Popes...especially read Pascendi Dominici Gregis by Pius X. Modernist decay and their attack on the faith was well identified and predicted. After all that, then read post Vatican 2 writings and tell us that nothing's changed away from orthodoxy.

The truth is, you don't even have to get past reading sacred scripture to know modernism is rotting the Church, and the faith of most Catholics with moral decay. The ones creating the new Church are the modernists. It won't last. Christ will not let God be mocked for long.

Like most modernist prelates, I think YOU are the one that hasn't been properly catechized.

We gotta get past surface levels of understanding scripture in both study, contemplation, and application. When we flunk on our catechism, how can we accurately see, much less help each other. We must all start pulling the beams from our eyes, and pray for and practice peace.

The pope spoke heresy and contridicted the word of Jesus. He said, in Italian, that all religions lead to the same god, that they all lead to salvation. This is against the scriptures. Jesus, even in the greek, said he is THE way to salvation. Not A way, THE way.

The human experience is one thing buy it should not obscure moral, dogmatic absolutes, etc.

Humans are sinners. Period. While we must love and pray for our fellow men... When it comes to things like human life, marriage, etc. there cannot be a consideration of a persons feelings or experience when they act in opposition to morality and church teaching.

If any institution should be guided by absolutes, its the church and by extension, the Pope himself.
Trying to play the middle when it comes to major social issues of our time does a massive disservice to the faithful and those who are lookiing to find a place in the church.

I dont know enough to really pass judgement on Francis, but his messaging is definitely problematic and Im sorry but I dont think the criticism leveled at him is just because someone doesnt like him as a person or whatever. No one is saying hes a terrible person but rather are lamenting apparent turn towards appeasement of certain segments of society (which ironically hate the church for the mostpart)

Your comments are reflection of modernity. Words like "subtlety," "intersectionality," and "nuanced" are probably often a part of your dialogue. Our God is not a God of confusion.

Fr. Casey goes on about how Pope Francis wants dialogues which I'm sure is why he removed Bishop Strickland without giving a reason.

You told us to read every text but the most important text of all.. the Bible. Another reason to say. The Bible is infallible. The church is not infallible. The pope is not infallible.

Did not Christ come to save the Jews? If Judism is an equal path to God, why do you need Jesus?

For me, it is incredible that John Paul II has not been criticized for some of the much more scandalous things he did during his papacy. Francis is a holy pope.
